Um ... do you have to read Japanese to find those figures? Not to say that I'd have a hard time believing the 360 could outsell the PS3 in Japan, but my wife Olivia Munn refuses to take me out for a ride on the unicorn unless I can prove it's true.

Think it can be explained by the release of Ace Combat 6.

Here's why:

Playstation 3 sales are dropping in Japan slightly becuase the cheapest(40GB, white) PS3 is coming out on Nov. 11.

XBOX 360 recently released Ace Combat 6 and a new bundle which will increase sales.

Anybody thinking that the XBOX 360 will start outselling the PS3 consistently like this in Japan are failing hard.

I think Galaxy will have legs. Nintendo is advertising this game everywhere in Japan

I thought the recent reports were that PS3 is catching up to wii but that wii is outselling it 2:1? *16'000 X 2 = .....* that's more than 2:1.

PS3 was getting closer, but the Wii numbers are up thanks to Galaxy. It will even get worse, because Wii-Fit will be released in December. And Brawl will be released in January (Melee was the only million selling Gamecube game in Japan). PS3 is in for a rough ride.

Here's why:

Start? No. No way. But the simple fact that it DID, even for one week, is amazing. If anyone has paid attention to the numbers up to now, its been very anemic for the 360. Blue Dragon week was VERY nice, but other than that its been pretty low. So to have no huge release come out (AC6 is not huge, but it did very well) and to have things spike up that much is quite impressive and deserves recognition.

Given Gust can crank out a game in 8 months with a budget of loose change found in the break lounge sofas, I think we'll see more of that series. How's that old saying go? The sun even shines on a dog's butt once in a while? Then again I've never really been sure what that means so maybe I'm way off.

Anyway that's a strong number for Microsoft, as they average about a quarter of that on most weeks. I'm curious to see exactly what it will take for Japan to get behind the 360 to the point where they'll at least move 10,000 units a week. Microsoft is certainly determined to make it over there, and the console has arguably the best library of games on either side of the word, and more are still coming.

2008 is going to be a fun year to watch.

It makes sense that the X360 is outselling the PS3 since it boasts stronger Japanese support and is a good deal cheaper.

I might be off my hinges here but I think perhaps people are expecting too much too soon from Microsoft in Japan, even to this day. What took 4-5(?) years to develop in Japan can't be changed in two.

Do companies like Capcon, Konami, Namco, Square-Enix, NIS, SNK Playmore, and Nintendo ring a bell? They are, after all, Japanese. ;) So in other words, Japan's success has a lot of influence to which direction these companies take, in which in turn, what kind of games that get localized to the west.

Also, if Japan is unimportant, then why is Microsoft trying so hard to sell the 360 over there with more Japanese development support, advertising, bundles, Mistwalker, etc.?

Obviously they have A LOT to do with the western world. Microsoft seems to think so then why haven't they given up?

Perhaps "relatively improving" is better than "closing the gap." But whatever, the basic idea is just the same. They used to be getting killed in sales, now they're losing. Still losing, yes, but momentum is gaining nonetheless.

These little bursts of 360 love in Japan are always amusing. I wonder how many more Microsoft has in them? Maybe during Lost Odyssey's launch week, but I can't think of anything else on the horizon that would warrant a spike in sales over there.

A slight improvement for the 360, but it will take more than AC6 and LO to turn the table.

Anyone know when the US October numbers are expected?
