Christian Damon > Every since Far Cry 3 sneaking through Outpost and eliminating enemies, has been one of my favorite things to do in a video game. I’m excited to report that strategically taking down enemies is just as fun in rural America as it is in The Tropical islands, and the Himalayas, and with Far Cry 5 Ubisoft has created another great game in the open-world series. It’s may seem like any other Far Cry but with all of these combat, physics, and wildlife systems all mixing together it creates unexpected moments of intense and hilarious action.
In Far Cry you play as a Sheriffs Deputy “rook”, a member of a task force sent into fictional Hope County, Montana. The location may not be as exotic as The Jungle or the Mountains, but it’s a gigantic open world where you have to beware of wild animals, crazy explosions and a never ending supply of cultists who are dying to be your target practice. The Valleys, Rivers, Towns, caves, and lakes of Hope County make Far Cry 5 a game that never has a dull moment.
This dark corner of Montana is Controlled by a man named Joseph Seed or “ The Father “ and his 3 siblings “ The Heralds” Faith, John, and Jacob. Joseph is the Founder and Leader of a extremist Religious Cult organization called “ Project at Eden’s Gate “. Eden’s Gate has used Violence and persuasion to bring residents of Hope County into is Cult, and as ordered by Seed and, as of events in the game Edens Gate is in Direct Conflict with the resistance “ Hope County Cougars “, “ Whitetail Militia “, “Fighters at Falls End”, and you’re who they need to stand against Joseph his siblings and the Cult.
With Far Cry 5 I found the gameplay to be exciting, and with it being a true Ubisoft open-world game I always found myself getting sidetracked during a mission because there was so much going on. That’s not a complaint - because I thoroughly enjoy games that have a large amount of activities and big possibility spaces. I found the action, scenery and detail of Far Cry 5 to be nice looking. It’s not quite attractive as other Ubisoft games, but it’s generally good enough.
I found the crafting features to be toned down in Far Cry 5, but to still be good, and it has most of the features of past Far Cry titles, but there are a few changes, for instance you now earn perk points that you can use to make holsters for your weapons, so no more running around hunting and skinning animals to craft equipment and of course the perk points can be used to unlock new abilities for the deputy. I really enjoyed the combat and gameplay of Far Cry 5, because along with the dozens of weapons and explosives that can be used, found, or purchased in shops all over the County, you can fly helicopters or planes, you still have the ability to drive cars but if you prefer the more scenic route or the extra fire power when you’re arriving to a objective then flying is the better choice. Ubisoft also introduced a new feature with Far Cry 5 the New Gun For Hire system, which allows for companionship and new combat possibilities. You can now recruit 9 different Specialist, who offer support through the air, or on the ground. With the Guns for Hire you can use your animals “ Fangs for Hire “ such as Peaches a Mountain Lion to stealthily take out your enemies, or use one of your “ Guns for Hire “ such as Nick Rye a pilot that follows you and attacks whoever you attack or enemy aircraft. Other features that I thought were great additions to the game are, the ability to customize your deputy, as well as play the game co-op with a friend. Far Cry 5 also introduces a Arcade mode which is completely separate from the games campaign where you can create your own levels. It is made to keep you playing long after you’ve cleared the Cult from Hope County. Which still has issues of its own but has levels that are enjoyable.
Final Verdict > Far Cry 5 is another open-world playground that has all of the necessary mechanics and features to keep you entertained and locked in. Along with all of the Insanity, the game manages to tell a very intense and serious story with a powerful and breathtaking ending. With this transition from exotic locations to America, Ubisoft has managed to create a great game that is Exciting and fun to play, and I have high expectations of what lies ahead for the Far Cry Series.
