In light of Fatal Frame: Mask Of The Lunar Eclipse releasing on the Wii, I figured I would give the series a chance. I have a PS3 (not backwards compatible) and a 360, which just so happened to have FFII: Crimson Butterfly Director's Cut on its list of BC games. The moment i put the disc in, I was hooked. This game has the scariest atmosphere since the RE remake on the Gamecube. The abandoned Japanese village is a perfect backdrop to the ghost story tale. The gameplay element of taking pictures of the ghost adds even more excitement to the game....hands down the scariest game ive ever played...what do you all think?

Its definetly was the best horror game last gen for me but to say its the scariest game evah is an overstatement. You might want to try out the old clock tower games those were brutal. too bad the series went downhill last gen

Silent Hilll (original for PSX) scared me fairly well. Especially when it was in surround sound. I couldn't play that game at night.

Silent Hill was fairly scary for its time ... and still is but the scariest game I've played is Silent Hill 2 (I played Fatal Frame 2 and 3 and have yet to play Silent Hill 3).

Fatal Frame is done really well artistically. If you are playing in surround sound, in the dark and if you are alone...it will make you nervous even if it's just a game.

I really think the camera adds the extra kick to the "scaryness." There is nothing more nerve-wrecking than a ghost spoting you while you are in first-person camera view and it comes popping from below the floor.

Crimson Butterfly was an excellent game, probably the best in the FF series. I wouldn't call it the scariest game I've ever played (Silent Hill 2 and the original Forbidden Siren were pretty nerve wracking) but it certainly had it's moments.

I was so disappointed when I found out Fatal Frame IV was a Wii exclusive. Don't get me wrong, it seems like as decent a place as any for the series (especially with the motion controls), I'm just sad I won't be able to play it...

I played maybe 15 minutes of the 1st Fatal Frame. I just couldn't get into it. My biggest problem was the camera mechanics. I felt it was pretty clunky. I could be wrong here, though. Maybe I should give it another try as a lot of people seem to enjoy the series.

Fatal Frame II (or Project Zero II as it's known here in the UK) never really scared me at all. I found it to be quite a predictable game in that sense, but then I never played it alone in the dark. I did however play Resident Evil in the dark when it first came out and not even the poor voice acting could calm my nerves. I kept thinking a Zombie would come through my window at any minute, or that something bad was just about to happen lol. Mind you that was 10 years ago!

I also did the same. I must admit, it was still creepy. I've played a few of the horror games for playstation such as Dino Crisis, Resident Evil, and Alien Resurrection but they weren't scary. I should play Silent Hill.

i read reviews from the original and the sequel, and most say the camera issues were fixed....from my playtime i will say that the camera isn't perfect, but not problems that have kept me from playing

I always found the original fatal frame was more scary then the second though I love it alot too all 4 of the fatal frame games are very good. The newest one I think is alot more scary then the ps2 version :).

Silent hill, kuon, forbidden Siren & rule of rose were all creepy horror games that helped make the last generation of horror survival games

I'm currently playing the original game on PS2, and while the game is enjoyable and atmospheric, I wouldn't call it scary (the poor voice acting is far too distracting), but I'd like to see if the sequel is better in this respect.

Fatal Frame 3 is much more scarier in my opinion...but of course silent hill 1 beats them all.

FaFr3 lost all sense of tension, due to being able to leave the nightmare at any time. And having all life recovery items respawn, after doing so.

Fatal Frame 2 did what the silent hill games do more or less. Give you control of a weak (as in they can't fight well) charecter and throw you into a F***ed up villiage. THe formula tends to succeed.

I loved them all, they were the most addicting ps2 games that I have played. I love video games and will play any and all games but usually I cant sit for hours upon hours and play them but this series was one that i just couldnt put down. I cannot WAIT for the new one to be released!

The same can be said for Rule of Rose.. at least for me, If you liked FF you should give Rule of Rose a shot if you can get ahold of a ps2 or rent one? and if you can get FF3 too!

ha, agreed...there's something about playing as a very vulnerable character that adds to the scariness. If the main character was someone like Kratos, or Master Chief then it just wouldn't be the same

I felt that it was too repetitive to be scary. You fought the same monsters so often it became the equivalent of an RPG game.

I liked it though, but both 2 and 3 are too predictable and or repetetive to be as scary as the original.
