What's your favorite old Resident Evil?
Mine is Zero, I thought it had the most evolved art style and atmosphere. My favorite puzzle in the game involved the statues of the deer, horse, snake, bear, and eagle.
What's yours?

Wow, you guys really liked Zero that much? I mean, it's not a bad game, it's still Resident Evil. But I thought it was one of the weakest ones in the series, after RE5 and RE: Survivor. I hated it being basically one giant escort mission, and the bug-creature things were just weird and gross, not really scary or creepy, I thought.
My favorite was Resident Evil 2, easily. Best story in any of the games, I thought, and at the time the cutscenes just blew me away. The game also has a lot of meat to it, since both characters each have their own separate playthroughs and their own separate 2nd playthroughs. You almost get 4 games in one, if you think about it. I also love the fact that you fight zombies, giant spiders, vicious undead dogs, and laboratory experiments gone wrong. It actually feels like a horror movie, rather than fighting infected crazy people like in the new RE games.
Resident Evil 2. It's a shame this game never recieved REmake treatment.

Oh goooodddd I know!!!! I wish they would have done this to 2 and 3.
But to answer the question it would be 2 if REmake doesn't count.
RE2 is my fav, but I liked "Zero" a lot because it was another great reason to own a GameCube... I thought it was the last really good RE game ever made...
I like everything, fairly equally, up through "Zero" & "Dead Aim" - "Dead Aim" of course being the progenitor of RE4 and everything which came after... I play them quite often, especially since they're the only Survival Horror games we're likely to ever see again. I feel like a Point-n-Click Adventure game fan must have felt around the mid-1990s...

:(
With all of the majors changing their recipe, I hope some indie folks pick it up and run with the ball... Some new-school "Cold Fear" up in dis' piece... Some "Haunting Ground", "Echo Night: Beyond", "Rule of Rose"... "Siren"... Some new IP which fills the gaping hole in the genre... The games for which there is still a HUGE community (as is evidenced by threads like this popping up perrenially - I think I started the last one, LoL! :P )
Someone ought to do it. Will it sell like Call of Duty? No. But could some enterprising group of devs make a living in an increasingly-difficult-to-find-a-niche industry, with a back-to-basics Survival Horror series?
I think so,
Quantic Dream is the best chance any of us have for future projects, and even they seem to be tickling the line between action/shootie and true Survival Horror/storytelling, puzzle solving, and tension/atmosphere-creating focus.
If a group came in with an RE2 gameplay rip-off with a new story to tell, I would applaud all day.

Then check out Carrier on Dreamcast. It's basically this. It mostly takes place on a giant freighter ship rather than the urban setting of RE, though.

Cool, will look it up! Always on the look-out for a DC game I don't have!!!
:D
I've been quietly collecting when I find horror games at a good price.

I would have to agree.
If you've exhausted your RE games, Carrier is a decent knock-off.
