Final Fantasy XII for me. That game revitalized and modernized the stagnating FF series and JRPGs in general. Too bad FFXIII took it a step back. I'm honestly surprised at all the love that FFX has been getting. It's probably the most overrated FF aside from FFVII. Annoying characters, bad voice acting, nonsensicle plot written for 8 year old school girls, weak battle system that took little to no attention, and (my biggest grip) almost completely linear experience with little room for exploration. I agree 100 trillion percent with your dislikes of FFX. The only PS2 RPG I have beaten is FFX, but im far enough into Kingdom Hearts to like it alot more than FFX though.
Persona 4 by far. Coming in 2nd would be Final Fantasy X, Final Fantasy X2, Star Ocean Till The End of Time, Xenosaga 1-3... *insert another 50 RPG's I love so many RPGs on the PS2 its crazy and that is why I still have the system and play these games. Least I picked a #1 for me though =)
