When FFVII came out there was nothing like it. Gameplay wise sure maybe it wasn't as advanced as other FF games but the presentation, graphics, and just the sheer epicness of it all was incredible.

And that's fine, really. As far as nothing like it goes, sure, but only because it was the first high-profile RPG to be released in the 32-bit age, and that's all. VIII had a lot more of that breathtaking impact on me than VII ever did. I've always believed that VIII was what VII should have been.

Oh I am a FFVIII guy all the way, its still my favorite one and I do think it was a better game than FFVII but I dont think it had as many iconic moments like FFVII. The way I see it is something like FFVII is SW: A New Hope, the first time you see it there was nothing like it, FFVIII is more like ESB, you have seen it before but its improved in many ways.

I've held that to be the basis over the sentimentality of FF VII as well. For many gamers as well as the era of more modernized gaming in general, it was the "first time" and you never forget the "first time."

16-bit era had plenty of great RPGs that had good pacing like Chrono Trigger and Breath of Fire.

Those two games allowed you to progress freely along the storyline. As long as you don't run away from battles, you are properly level to fight the bosses. FFVI on the other hand, if you don't grind there are chances you might even have troubles with regular enemies you encouter, especially when you get to world of ruins.

I seriously doubt anyone was able to beat FFVI without leveling your characters up on the side. Chrono Trigger and Breath of Fire didn't force me to level. The bosses ended up fairly challenging if you didn't level on the side, but I see that as good challenge because you can defeat them as long as you plan your fight. FFVI on the other hand made you level on the side or you can't progress to the end.

Chrono Trigger, I'll agree with you on, Breath of Fire? Not so much if you're referring to I & II. I remember having to level like crazy in BoF so my weak link character wouldn't get killed in two hits from bosses.

Much like FF VI, BoF is marred by "old school" RPG conventions in leveling. It was really more of a shame in the case of FF VI. Outstanding gameplay, great story and characters, but some sloppy pacing.

BoF pacing was terrible after the first one. BoF 2, 3, and 4 (didn't play 5) forced you to level like there is no tomorrow. 4 wasn't so bad and it ended up being my second favorite BoF game, but first one had excellent pacing. I don't remember grinding in that game, and often my character would recieve some overly powerful skills to get by whatever troubles I face, like dragon transformation and fusion.

Also BoF gives you those magic keys (can't remember too well but I'm sure there were some magic keys, it's been a long time.) that you can use infinite amount of times.

As for FFVI, I never really liked it, so I have trouble understanding when people talk about great gameplay and stories for FFVI. I do give credit to VI for having excellent characters, but story? I thought it pretty much sucked and I thought gameplay had some issues because I found that game to be more of how you level your character than what you actually do in the battle.

Well, I guess it's more of subjective opinion so let's just leave it at that.

FFVIII battle system perhaps was the weakest but it was the only build-up system that insured that you use all sorts of power ups in the games from magic spells to summon to weapons. They were all vital and connected.

There have been rumors circulating since last year that a Final Fantasy VII remake for the PS3 was planned, but Square Enix has been silent on the subject.ragek1ll589

They had NOT been silent. They said it was a technics trailer and NOT PLANNED!Why?Because Remakes always sell worse then the Originals and well,to make it look like the T-Demo it whould require a LOT of money.A new development pays off a lot better for them.
