I'd have to agree with the people previous who have said Grandia. It's easily amongst my 3 favourite RPGs, and is rather easy as well.
If you're willing to put up with some frustration Persona 3 and Star Ocean: Till the End of Time are also quite good. Persona 3 however is quite challenging, and Star Ocean is known for having a poor plot and frustrating gameplay elements.
Oh, I love explloring. I don't quickly rush and beat a game like Red Dead or GTA. I play around and enjoy the scenery and do much of the side quests. I'll look up these games and see which one looks good. I actually like anime, what is a JRPG?LordsLoss
If you like anime I will recommend the Tales series to you. My personal favorites are Tales of Symphonia (GC/PS2) and Tales of the Abyss (PS2) but they are older and probably hard to find. I felt like I was playing an anime when going through those games. I heard good things about Tales of Vesperia but I don't have the new systems so haven't played it.
Dragon Age and Mass Effect arn't the best RPGs. They are great fun, but the games are linear. Fallout games on the other hand are free roam games and has a better atmosphere with a lot of exploring.face_ripper
The linearity is the point of those games. It allowes the game to tell a better story.
Mass Effect and Fallout 3 are terrific RPGs. New Vegas would be a little easier to get into, but isn't nearly as good.
My first rpg was Might and Magic II: Gates to Another World for Sega Genesis. The instruction booklet, if you could call it that, was over 150 pages long. I just ran around the map with no idea how to advance the storyline or progress in the game...I just battled random monsters and traveled from town to town talking to NPC's... some dude named Nordonna always yelled "Be gone!" at me. I still have the game, maybe I should give it another shot.
Resonance of Fate, Magna Carter 2, Koudelka, Shadow Hearts, Crystal Warriors, Star Ocean, Shining Force, Lunar. Go get them.Earlier today i was tlaking to a guy at Gamestop and we were talking about RPG's and I said I didn't like them. Well to be honest, I don't think I have ever really given an RPG a chance. Does anyone recomend a good first RPG to try. I hear Fallout: New Vegas is good, but is it harder than most? I'm just looking to shake up my genre of playing a little bit. I'm tired of FPS's and with Need for Speed coming out I'm going to race for a little bit. So, anyone have any good ideas?

ehh dont try pokemon...its too much of a grandiose version of rock, paper, scissors. mass effect is a good easy almost rpg...if u want somethin simple and easy go with that...u want the full on crpg experience as it was meant to be...go get baldurs gate 1 and 2 from gog.com...its hard its intense and its based off real d&d ruleset...ooo and d&d is pretty much the end all be all of rgps
Hey look! you like Star Wars by the look of your avatar yet I don't think anybody has recommended you Knights of the old Republic :o its so cheap on steam you can't pass it up and you are in for a real treat. Also you could pick up WoW vanilla for next to nothing and just get to 60, lots of exploring and people to meet ;) easy learning curve too.
Yeah why not try the original WoW till 60, with cataclysm the quests are alot better now. And if you're stuck you can ask help.(even if the community isn't all that great)Hey look! you like Star Wars by the look of your avatar yet I don't think anybody has recommended you Knights of the old Republic :o its so cheap on steam you can't pass it up and you are in for a real treat. if your tired of fps's I would say dragon age is a great choice. If you want shooting and rpg hybrid fallout 3 or ME would be great. If you like star wars I would highly reccomend getting knights of the old republic. It was my first rpg and I think it was perfect for it.
