is it just me? or is everyone else sick of games being compared all the time.

so what if two worlds is like oblivion

Diablo was like Baldurs gate

i'm not saying that games shouldn't be comepared but it really bring downs the new games coming out

i mean what theres only maybe 2 games a year that really kick ass and then only one of them will be something completly new. adn most of the time we dont get anything new.

i seenothing wrong with building off a good genre.

am i the only one who thinkk this?

I don't agree. I think it's interesting comparing games and figuring out the strengths and weaknesses of certain titles. In a way comparing games and finding what you do and don't like is a never-ending quest of constructing your idea of a perfect game. It's an interesting endeavor, and that's why I like writing reviews so much. If I didn't like talking about games, and more specifically comparing them, I wouldn't have so many posts here.

A comparison doesn't always equal a negative criticism. Of course there will be similarities between games in the same genre but it's because they are following a similar structure. ie. RPG, FPS, Strategy etc. or more detailed elements such as regenerating health (ala Halo). It's the game as a whole that has to set itself apart from the other games. This is where the differences must be pointed out as well. If people are saying that Two Worlds is similar to Oblivion...what is it that makes it DIFFERENT?

Yes,only to a certaindegree,I am tired of it as well, most of the time it just leads to trolling, the fact that people compare rpg's to shooters, and shooters with mmo's ect.. is annoying at best, but everyone know and then people can talk about a game without saying "it sucks because I said so" or other silly comments like that.

comparisions are bound to happen..

even when u play the games u are goin to think "oh that was done better in the one i played before.. "

but i do agree that the game should not be dissed just because its similar.

Agree. Everything is inspired from something else, just with a twist. A lot of people think "Dead Rising" is an original game with an original idea. I don't think it is. I think that at its core is nothing more than just another zombie game. You kill zombies like in Resident Evil, with the gameplay style and pace of GTA, with wild and crazy weapons, most of which have the same function (how many blunt weapons are in that game), and the setting (a mall) was the set piece for a previously released zombie movie. Everything is inspired...nothing is original.
