I was reading something on gamespot that was talking about video games as a form of art. I believe that games can be a form of art. I just want to see people's opinion on this question. Do you think video games is a form of art?
Depends on the game. Just like films, music and books can be considered art it all depends on the content. I wouldn't consider Knocked Up or Snoop Dogg to be art, but certainly Akira and JS Bach. Ico, Shadow of the Colossus, Dark Chronicle, Persona 3 and Okami all spring to mind.
I think certain games can be considered art, just like certain movies are considered art. Art by definition, is a beautiful piece of work and I think many games can fall under that catagory. Prince of Persia, Shadow of the Colossus, Valkyria Chronicles, Bioshock... all these games can be classed as beautiful, so I don't know why they couldn't be considered art.
Of course, I believe they are. I think every form of creativity-inspired creation can be called art. Of course, if you're someone who creates bolts and steel beams, you're not an artist, but if you take ideas and put them into something such as film, music, visual art or even computer games, you are of course, an artist.
