@The_Last_Ride: I didn't mind the new Sim City that much. However I had a cracked version that had all the expansions added. Maybe that was what made it not so horrible haha.

I rarely regret buying a video game. Even if I don't really care for it, I usually at least find $50 worth of entertainment value from it, and rarely pay more than $50 for a game. That said, I picked up Spore on launch day and would rather have picked up one of those game disks at target that have nothing but card games on them than that crap. No other game to my knowledge has ever been sold as something so far from the final product as Spore was. Peter Molyneux tries his best to out-bullshit what Maxis did with Spore, but he hasn't accomplished it yet.
Like an Idiot, I bought the game BRINK simply because I saw Bethesda on the cover. Oh I turned off a game so fast.
I did the exact same thing

We dumb...

You didn't pay for it, i did
Modern Warfare 2. Terrible. Killed the entire franchise for me. Followed by Splinter Cell Conviction; years of hype and PR speech, just to release a generic game. The beginning of the end.
Banjo Nuts and Bolts: I knew it was gonna be a fucking awful game but I still bought it anyway because I was blinded by rose-tinted nostalgia, but at least I got a download code for N64 Banjo Kazooie out of it.
COD 4: I let myself get talked into buying it from my dumbass friends I had back then. It's not a bad game, it's just not the kinda game I like to play...
COD MW2: Same deal.
GTA The Lost and the Damned: One of my gaming buddies convinced me to buy the DLC even tho I didn't even like GTA 4 that much, and TLAD almost filled up my 360's tiny HDD, and the game itself was so lame and boring that I just deleted it without even finishing it.
Shadows of the Damned: A really lame RE4 clone that was a complete waste of $60, and to think that I picked POS game over L.A. Noire...
Resident Evil Operation Raccoon City: 'Nuff said.
Resident Evil 5 Collectors Edition: I spent $90 on the RE5 CE and all I got was an ugly steel case for the game, a shitty iron on patch, a stupid cheap necklace, a cheap little plastic Chris Redfield toy that looked like it came out of a supermarket toy dispenser, and a tiny little messenger bag that I used as a space to stuff all my drawing sketchbooks in.
Silent Hill Downpour: **** that game. Downpour sucked so bad that it was the only Silent Hill game that I couldn't even be bothered to finish. It's no wonder that game killed the franchise.
Dead Space 2 CE: I spent $80 on the CE and all it came with was this crappy little plastic plasma cutter gun that looked like a happy meal toy.
Mortal Kombat 9 Tournament Edition: I spent $150 on this game that came with this arcade PDP controller stick. The controller itself was actually pretty sweet but I never used the damn thing as much as I thought I would so that ended up being a pretty big waste of money...
Beyond Two Souls: I can't believe that I was dumb enough to preorder this asinine turd of a game, it was so bad that I had to force myself to sit down and finish it since Ellen Page was so insufferable as all she does is whine and cry throughout the whole game.
All that said, I'm ashamed to admit that I spent a really embarrassing amount of money on Rock Band DLC over the years, considering I stopped playing those games by the time RB3 came out...
Loved COD4 COD W@W and MW2. Black ops was a steaming pile of shit totally regretted buying it. MW3 was god awful also. Black ops 2 kinda restored my faith it was ok . COD ghosts was a joke and so was advanced warfare. I didn't buy either but played them at a friends house. I'm totally done with COD. Black Ops 3 looks like shit. I'll stick to BF4 for shooters.
Other then that I don't regret buying too many games. I don't buy day one and usually wait for price drops and player feedback. I no longer trust gaming site reviews. I watch player feedback on youtube I can usually tell if I'll like a game. I don't trust trailers either they can polish any turd and make pretty trailer.
I have a lot of those actually.
Uncharted 2
Little King's Story
Prototype 2
Mario Kart 8
Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale
LittleBigPlanet 2
The PS3 version of Bayonetta
Ni No Kuni
Klonoa (Wii)
I don't know why anyone wouldn't not have like Uncharted 2 or Mario Kart 8? I thought both were fun games. I bought Bayonetta on PS3 day 1 and it was pretty bad but they patched it within a couple days. It ran great after that for me. I finished the game and didn't have any game breaking glitches other then some minor screen tearing here or there.

I felt like Uncharted 2 did almost everything wrong from a game design perspective. I'm the kind of guy that feels that meaningful interaction is the most important thing in a game. Uncharted 2 really spits on that kind of experience. It's more of a passive back-seat-driver experience where the player just goes through the motions and lets stuff happen to him or her. I couldn't beleive how much of that game was utterly pointless from a gameplay perspective. There was way too much "cinematic walking" or parts where your interaction was completely meaningless. It felt like the game was designed to be completely devoid of any genuine enjoyment.
Mario Kart 8 was a pretty stupid purchase on my part. I had disliked the series for a time because of the way it outright punishes you for playing well. Like I said before, I want my interaction in a game to be meaningful. The blue shell is something that completely negates player effort for no good reason whatsoever. It's an item that doesn't benefit the last place player who gets it and just messes up the person who deserves to win. That's absolutely horrid game design in my opinion. Mario Kart 8 only worsens this problem by including the coin item. Now when you're in first place, you will get the useless coin item more often than not so that you're vulnerable not only to the unavoidable blue shell, but also every other item from anyone behind you. A game shouldn't punish a player for successfully interacting with it.
I bought Bayonetta on PS3 well after the patch. Unfortunately, I've played and adored the Devil May Cry games as well as watch a friend play a good portion of Bayonetta on 360. The fact that the PS3 version of Bayonetta is visually inferior and worse, runs at a janky sub-30 frames per second is bad.
Far Cry 2. I heard such mixed things about it and thought I'd give it a shot. After an hour of playing I was not enjoying myself and I haven't touched it since.
Not sure if I've posted in this thread because it's old, but I have a decent amount of Steam games. The majority I regret buying. I'm way to much of a snob now.
I'm really cautious about paying full price for a game but even that has lead me to a few mistakes. I wont list any cause im sure some people thought they were great games. But probably 1 in 5 games i get i regret buying.
Aaaaw, come oooooon, there's always a significant amount of people who'll agree with you. On the internet every game is a steamy pile of crap. ;-)
I don't regret games. I actually find that if you buy a game on day 1 with discounts (like Best Buy GCU + $10 Rwd Zone) then trade in during the first week can actually mean you spend next to nothing.
Well, I bought some duds but I usually manage to get a bit of fun out of 'em even if I don't finish them.
I found mirrors edge to be vastly overrated.
I'm generally not a fan of games that have immersion breaking things like puzzles or parts that you can't possibly get past without a lot of thinking or trial and error.
The Gamespot community owes me an apology for convincing me to buy Pillers of Eternity. Boring, crap that I have moved on from. I don't have to judge a game by it's graphics but I didn't want to play another Balders Gate type game that doesn't try to be anything but a Balders Gate type game. Choices and consequences that didn't matter, too many restrictions on how you can go about your business and a glaringly obvious combat exploit which turns every fight into a joke. Infinity Engine is fine but i'll prefer to play something that's not trying to rely too much on nostalgia.
I should say that my initial response to it was favorable but it got old fast.
MGS 4, because it made me buy a PS3 with it. Not that I hate the PS3 (just the opposite) but if I had bothered to play that shit game past the first level to see how awful it became, never would I have paid full price for the console. I'd have waited for it to drop a bit.
@jasonredemption: Yeah that logic makes sense. Pay for a subscription to buy games with a discount and then trade them in immediately after buying them.
World of Warcraft is my biggest gaming regret and mistake.
The main thing that Blizzard is really good at is dangling a digital carrot in front of people. And like a lot of people I spent years running around is circles gobbling up as many carrots as I could. It wasn't until I left Wrath of the Lich King pissed off that I really started to think about it.
World of Warcraft is built on the back bone of some genuinely terrible game mechanics.
That need and greed bit that is used to determine who gets what magical doodad after a fight while in a team ..... its an honor system.... on the internet. How dumb do you have to be to use this in the first place and keep it 10 years later even after all the fights is caused?
@thegamingjunkie: @thegamingjunkie:
I regret buying every game I've ever bought. Video games are for complete losers. (Just playing).
I regret buying every game I've ever bought. Video games are the most addictive drug on the planet. . .and I'm enjoying every minute of it.
I regretted buying the original Borderlands and Skyrim.
Hmm a few come to mind:
-GTA V (PS3 version)
Yuck, why was this game even released for last gen? Still, I'll give em credit for making the game run on that ancient hardware anyways.
-Uncharted: Drake's Fortune
Absolutely hated playing through it. But I finished it nonetheless.
-Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs
Very boring. A snooze-fest at best.
-Sonic Riders (PS2)
Eh, very forgettable.
