Don't get the title wrong. You should get excited over games. E3 isn't far away, and i am sure we will see games that are years away from being Developed. Watch Dogs, Bioshock, Battlefront, Star Wars 1313, Prey 2, etc all have been announced way too soon. We don't have any guarantee that we will see all these games we are being shown.

We are basicly watching something what they might think the game might look like. This also goes towards the resolution issue. We basicly get to see what the game MIGHT look like years from now Killzone and Aliens: Colonial Marines are the best examples here.

What i am trying to say here is; don't get excited over the games we might get, get excited over the ones we have. I am pretty sure most of you haven't tried a lot of the great games that we got from the last generation and we are still getting. We should value games as a cultural expression and not just some media that we just consume and throw away. That's why you can get old games for low costs, because the retailers and online distributors think that they are. We as gamers should not always go for something that is brand spanking new, but appreciate what has come before and see the value. We should be excited what we can play right now over games that are out and not about games coming out. Because there is just so much great games to experience for us all

I'd love to be appreciating what's out, and I usually do. But, and speaking especially to consoles, all you can really do right now is be excited for what's coming out, because there ain't shit to play on the PS4 and X1.

@The_Last_Ride: well said!! And very true. Let the next gen consoles marinate for a while to get a full flavour, before devouring them. I currently don't own a next gen console, there's still plenty of amazing games I'm yet to play and excited about playing on my 360.

While I'm definitely excited for some upcoming games, there are also some great games already out. Child of Light is an example... such a great little game!

I'm excited for both. I'm still picking up some great games that are out and I'm always eager for what's on the horizon.

Yeah, that's what's nice about being a bit behind in gaming. I don't mind there being several months of only a couple of games that interest me. It gives me more time to catch up and focus on what there is to play. I like new game announcements and all, but I'm not one of those people sit around and complain there's nothing to play while I wait for one game to come out.

That's my point also, even on next gen, there are games that are out you can play instead of waiting for the ones coming out now

I agree with you. It is nice being behind in gaming. I feel that being behind not only makes most games cheaper (Steam sales/ Amazon), but it allows me to take much of the hype out of my purchase decision.

Me, too.

E3 is all about future technology. If everything shown there was coming out the same year, it would be more like advertising than the original goal of Disney's Tomorrowland.

I am not saying you shouldn't get excited, but most of those games are still a way's out and we will get fed stuff over years for that game.

Well I can still be excited when new games first get mentioned as well as continue to be excited for them as new info comes out.

The anticipation of new things coming is part of the reason E3 is exciting. When a game is shown, looks great, and the version sold to consumers does not play nearly as well as it originally looked, people can be cautious about any future optimism. Killzone 2 is one such example. It is understandable. Constrastingly, when games meet or exceed our expectations, then there is reason to remain exciting about what is coming. There are some exciting games coming out this month like Transistor, Watch Dogs, and Mario Kart 8. We already know much about them, though. E3 is about new things and since technology continues to improve, many remain excited about the idea that we have not reached the limits of electronic technology.

I don't really care for that, because all the media wants with that is get hits and the game publisher for the game to stay relevant

Nothing wrong with that though. Why is this bad? People have to be aware of a products existence somehow and that's what the media does. Also what's wrong with a publisher wanting to stay relevant? Seems like a perfectly logical thing to want to do.

That is a reasonable perspective. Many games shown at E3 do eventually get to the point of sale, though.

Star Wars 1313, Prey 2, Command and Conquer, Megaman, etc are all reasons to be concerned though

They were not all announced the same year. As I said before, that disappointment has come instead of met or exceeded expectations because of games being put on indefinite hold or cancelled which has resulted in a more cautious audience is understandable. Unfortunate as it may be, I believe as long as there is progression, there will be some setbacks and failures. They inadvertently make what we have and will have later all the more valuable.

@The_Last_Ride: Spot on Ride

There are so many good indie and AAA games out there that you could begin now and still not be finished at next E3 in 2015 , but hype is fun and May has some pretty big releases coming.

My problem is I have a void in my life where a MP or co-op shooter goes. It always been the most recent Halo but Halo 4 was not my cup of tea.

Borderlands 2 ran out of content and lacked true endgame material to keep me enticed.

This is why I have been excited about Destiny for awhile and will continue to be. I believe it will fill that void.

This thread is also why I haven't put a lot of faith in Halo 2 Anniv. and Halo 5, yet.

Celebrate games as a hobby or passion regardless of their age.

Yeah this is what I do. I try to ignore most of the smug, jaded, and/or cynical playerbase as hard as it may be sometimes given their seemingly constant need for attention.

This year the only games I've played that were released this year were Bravely Default, Luftrausers, Cake Collective's KiloBite and Schizoid's Album, only one of which was a major release that people were 'hyped' for. The rest of the year has been spent playing games such as Crash Bandicoot trilogy, Killer 7, Legend of Zelda (I and II), a couple other indie games, and Zone of Enders. I couldn't be happier with revisiting games I never got the chance to play for extremely cheap. I'll tune in for e3 announcements, but I'm not planning on buying any or rushing out to buy a new console.

@The_Last_Ride: it's deffinately all about waiting for those game of the year editions. Plus if you can wait a bit longer and get pre owned GOTY copy thats cheap that's even more to get excited about.
