The thing is, they potentially COULD bring GTA V back if they actually focused on getting GTA V back instead of trying to point out some double standard that no one cares about. No doubt the only reason Target pulled GTAV is because they didn't want to lose some customers by offending them. But how many customers would they have possibly lost by keeping the game in the store? I can't say, but I have a hard time imagining that it's a lot. Most customers, I'd wager, don't give a shit one way or another. What would it take to bring GTA V back? All it would take is establishing that Target loses more customers (or more specifically, money) without the game than if they had the game on store shelves. I suspect that's actually potentially doable (or at least, would be if the people complaining about this actually shopped at Target).
That would be interesting to find out. I highly doubt they'd succeed, though, because Target probably knows its customer demographics pretty well. It would need a very good reason to put GTA V back on the shelves. But well, you won't know until you try.
Yeah, that's why I said "potentially". As others have pointed out, Target isn't exactly the #1 spot where gamers buy games. So I'd wager that most of the people who are mad about this don't shop at Target anyway (which means no lost sales if they get pissed off).
I'll wager that most Target shoppers just don't care one way or the other.
But there are POTENTIALLY Target customers who want to buy the game from Target (otherwise they wouldn't have sold the game there in the first place) and there are POTENTIALLY people who'll stop giving Target money if Target continues to sell the game (which seems to me to be the only logical reason to stop carrying the game). But the bottom line is that I seriously doubt that there's a terribly pro or con element. I can't imagine that most of Target's customer base actually cares one way or the other, but that the majority of Target shoppers really just don't give a shit one way or the other. If that's the case (and I admit that I may be totally wrong about that), then you're talking about a minority battling with another minority in order to see who is the favored minority. At that point...yeah it could go either way since the majority doesn't care the least about this shit.
EDIT: In any case, petitioning to bring back GTAV might be unlikely to succeed, but I think going that route has a much higher chance of being successful than petitioning to have the Bible removed.
Even if the only point of the Bible petition is to illustrate the double standard, what does that actually accomplish? Does Target not realize that it's a double standard? Of course they do. They probably don't care about that, all they likely care about is maximizing profits.
