no, why should you? Do your girlfriend stop buying clothes and spending money on shoes? Women spend time doing pointless stuff as well, so why should you give up gaming? Are they willing to give up shopping? No,then why should you give up giving? No woman will ever make me give up something I like doing.
Because someone told me to? No. Any bf/gf that told me what I can or cannot do isn't going to be in a relationship with me.
Now would I quit because greedy developers kill the used market and renting sites and refuse to release games that arn't H4RDC0R3 shooters? Yes. I rarely play non-retro games.

What the question is here: why is this person asking you to give up your hobbies in the first place? And what makes gaming different from golf, hockey, collecting stamps or watching movies?
It isn't that the video games themselves are more important than people... its that we value someone who supports who we are and is not out to change that.
I did once, not completely, but I wasn't allowed to play when she was home. (She was my fiance) Since then, I've moved on and now dating a woman who also plays video games. :)
