I picked the SNES, but what's up with three Sega consoles on the list? Dreamcast may have found a niche with people who thrive on niches but I've had farts that lasted longer than it's market relevance.

Those would argue SNES vs PS2. But for me, my personal favorite is N64.

Probably the SNES. It had so many awesome games (unlike the Dreamcast and N64 that had awesome games but not as many). and really, Master System? Really? The NES was waaaay better.

Dude, where's the NES and how did the Master System get on the list? Every boy in the United States that was between 5-15 years old during the 80s had an NES.

It is the SNES. That thing was more or less like a VCR. I used to have weekly game nights with my brothers and some friends where we'd all walk to Blockbuster and rent 2 or 3 games. Unlike nowadays, where a store like blockbuster more or less carries every good game, the snes would ALWAYS have new games that you haven't played--and games sometimes had to be phased out to create space for new releases--the library was just that massively good.

It put SNES but I have to point something out, DC can play SNES games. Second why is the master system in this list and not the NES? The master system was never relevent, NES sure is but it can also be played on DC. I guess the answer really is DC, but the DC is amazing and can do lots of emulation but the SNES is just more awesome(but the NES was better).

Nintendo 64 should at least be a choice. What other console offered its multiplayer capabilities? NONE. This is why ps2 is an overrated console imo--it didn't really offer anything unique to gaming--nothing more than prettier psx games.

SNES is definetly the Champ. I personally don't think any "old-school" console comes close. And yeah whats up wtih the Dreamcast on the list? Thats sad. Its in the same generation as ps2, xbox, and gamecube. N64 probably would have rivaled the SNES in quality if Nintendo would have released it in CD form as they had intended, but that didn't happen. But yeah SNES FTW http://www.raphnet.net/electronique/x2wii/snesctl_wii1.jpg

NES

No other console has meant more to gaming. Not to mention, it introduced titles like Super Mario Bros 1, 2, and 3, Zelda, Tetris, Metroid, Blaster Master, Punchout, Megaman, and others. It has more of the industry's most beloved games than any system. Also, there would be no Sega, no Playstation, and no XBox without this console, as home gaming was dead before the NES. For shear historical significance and influence, no other console comes close.

My personal favorite is probably the N64 though (Ocarina, Goldeneye, 1080, Star Fox 64, SMB 64, Rogue Squadron), with SNES coming close (ALttP, Super Mario World, Super Mario Kart).

SNES. With all the Square RPG's back when they were good plus all the first party titles as well as Capcom games, SNES is unmatched by any other system.

Heirren

The PS2 is seen as a huge system because it has 1,800 games with multiple games in each genre. Nintendo is the king of local multiplayer no contest. Nintendo has lacked in at least one genre of gaming or more after the SNES. The N64 had almost no RPG's the Fighting games it did have were rather average with a few exceptions. The N64 was still awsome for what it did do. GC did not add anything new. It still did basically the same thing the N64 did. The PS2 also helped DVD in the beginning. When a system has like 85 to 90 percent of gaming software on one system plus extra media, it is not hard to see why the masses chose PS2 as it's prefered system. I will agree that the GC was great and it should not have been as heavily ignored as it was.

I see where you are coming from, I own a ps2, but I draw blanks when I think about playing a ps2 game nowadays. There are some genuinely good games, but quite a few of the "AAA" I thought were good at the time, just don't hold up anymore. I'm beginning to believe that the ps2 is what made gaming more of a casual thing as well. It was a competitive dvd player at the time. Kids could convince there parents to get one because of this--which attributed to it eating up market share. Sony having this huge peice of the pie is what led to mounds and mounds of shovelware though. The design of the system was also more casual--it looked more or less like a peice of a/v equipment. The kids that used to think gaming wasn't cool started eating this system up because it became very hip.

This is why the best console is the snes. A few posts back, someone mentioned the nes. Yes, it was very influential and important, but it's silly to think that it was the best based on it being first. Michael Jordan wasn't the first basketball player, but there are quite a few people that consider him the best ever. Also, the snes, riding the tail of the popularity of the nes, was still in a time where games were made for GAMERS. People played games for the challenge and tight gameplay. Now that games are seen differently in the media, games are made more for the mass public--they have been extremely dummied down, which is another reason I don't think the ps2 is that great. I really can't think of one difficult ps2 game.

Megadrive had memorable games including Sonic 1, Streets of Rage and Ristar. PS1 would be my second favourite.

The Neo Geo AES is my favourite old school console. I just love Metal Slug and other SNK games. The PC Engine would come a close second.

All Time, Drumroll Please>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

NES/ with the SNES a close second. Although I am enjoying the PS3 so much right now that 10 years from now I may reevaluate.

If you mean old school then the SNES by far but newer up to date would have to be the Playstation 2 so many great RPGs and for fighting game fans the Dreamcast is a beast.

sorry gotta quote ya, i dont think so , , whats that black box that says nintendo 64 on it , um thats whats in the way of ps ever being , best creation of man , and honestly it may be close but snes is the best , if it hadnt been for snes ironically ps wouldnt ever exist
