I've not used such a satisfying gun ever in a game as the shotgun in Doom. Don't know why it was so gratifying, but I found myself sticking with it even though I had more powerful ones. I also really liked the bolt gun in Half Life 2 and how you were able to pin guys to the background. Cool stuff.
I don't play many Sci-fi shooters and I forgot most of the weapons that are in the game that have played. I always found the plasma or laser rifless to be my favorites.
A bit off topic but related - Why is the shell ejection always on the wrong side? It's that way in almostevery game ever first person game evermade.

I mean the gun is in inthe right hand but the ejection port and charging handle are on the left side of the receiver. They should be on the right, otherwise hot brasswould be slamming intothe operator'sface, assuming the operator operates a long gun withhis right hand. It's been that way as long as I can remember. EVEN games that originated in the United States (We're mostly right handed.) It's not necessarily a regional thing either since a long gun for a left handed shooter doesn't just have a left side ejection.. many of the other mechanism are switched around as well, but in these games these mechanisms are where they would be on aright handed operator. So why is the ejection always on the wrong side?
Even thepistols have the ejection port on the wrong side. It doesn't matter which side it's on since you hold the pistol center so it doesn't matter if the brass ejects to the left or the right, but traditionally it's on the right, theside same as a long gun. Usually with an automatic pistol the ejectingbrass occasionally hits theoperator's face anyway, that's why you're supposed toeven it out before you fire another round, but one here an there is no big deal. With along gun it would be constant.
It's just crazy, because for many of these games I can just tell the designers NEVER used a real gun and have no idea how they work, but I guess as long as their BSentertainskids that's all that matters.
Here's a funny one. The M16/M4 dust cover which is the standard AR-15 dust cover does not open and close automaticly. It pops open when the bolt retracts and remains open until the user shuts it with his or her hand. It doesn't close itself.
Games such as Raven Shield and Global Operations are the only games in which the designers clearly got their understanding of guns from real guns, not airsoft guns.

Ahh, I never saw any automatic rifle do that in a game but some pistols in games do eject shells wrong
Most of Dooms guns were memorable, the BFG was just great, The best shotgun in my opinion is from a TPS though. The gravity gun was nice.I've not used such a satisfying gun ever in a game as the shotgun in Doom. I like the Grav Hammer in Halo, but I also really like that gun that they showed in the E3 demo of Bulletstorm that shot two chained-together grenades. :D
Half-Life 2's gravity gun and Portal's orange-blue portal gun are really coollamprey263
Agreed, and you can't go past the awesomeness of the crowbar.
I also really enjoyed the freezethrower, shrink ray and devastator weapons.
The fully upgraded shotgun in Bioshock brought fear to any splicer non-symetrical eyes. The golden gun in James bond was ridiculous. PLasmids should count as weapons, and were also cool. And lastly the gravity gun from half-life 2.
I like the Gravity Hammer from Halo 3 and the nail gun from F.E.A.R. There's nothing like stapling a fool to the wall by his head.
