Some people have put together an impressive port of GTA3 to the Dreamcast. This is an alpha version, but it can fully run on a stock Dreamcast from the disc drive, including all the radio stations managing to fit on the disc with resampling. Homebrew developers had to overcome the 16MB RAM limitation of the hardware and a simpler disc drive interface which made streaming data more of a complex issue to solve.

While this is interesting to see but what I want to know is, if the Dreamcast will run more demanding PS2 games such as San Andreas, God of War 2, Burnout 3, or even Silent Hill 2. I'm talking heavy demanding PS2 titles. (Now if Dreamcast can run Halo CE, I'll be freaking impress) I know this is only happening is due to the source code for Grand Theft Auto 3 got leaked to the internet but still, I do wonder what is possible and what would need to be cutdown for those other what if...? ports given the scope and details.

I do remember seeing a thread here asking was the Dreamcast was powerful than PC in that era.

@robert_sparkes: They picked a GPU that could punch above its weight. It would render only the parts of polygons that could be seen, and it would split up the rendering job into bits that could be processed more efficiently on the chip as much as possible without constantly fetching data from slower components. This would also have the effect of helping to speed up work done in parallel.

They probably could have put up a good fight that generation, it's too bad it was cut short!

Never got to experience the Dreamcast unfortunately, but I'm always impressed by what people like that are able to pull off.

Man that is cool to see. I think Shenmue was the most technically demanding game released for the system, so to see the jump from that to GTA3 is pretty darn impressive. Hopefully they can iron out the performance a bit more. But a very impressive accomplishment none the less.

After that, VC and SA should be a piece of cake....right? :P.
