hardest game this gen

for the current gen (360, ps3, wii, and PC games that came out 2005+. no handhelds)

what game would you say is the most challenging on its default settings (no higher difficulty settings)

i've rented countless games so far for all 3 systems, and own lots of PC games.

and despite PC gaming being refered to as more hardcore gaming than consoles, i must admit that for this gen Demon's Souls has been the most challenging game i've played without being cheap on its difficulty

if you die its always because you made a mistake. not the way where you expose yourself in a shooter and you get shot from half a mile away from an enemy who spots you and headshots from hip fire. rather its more like you were careless in your approach to attack and maybe didnt switch to proper equipment because you were too lazy to or because you rushed through a corridor instead of scouting for enemies before.

whats your opinion if you have one, and is there another game you would recommend?

Ninja Gaiden 2 is pretty hard. Some of the boss fights are nearly impossible still havent beat the last one.

Call of Duty 3 on veteran mode, either you die a cheap death or the game freezes up on you. Never wanted to play that game again.

And why no handhelds? Prinny is bloody hard, though I think not as hard as Demon's Souls.

Well Ikaruga is an xbox live game this gen and if that counts it easily wins, that game is b****** hard :?.

That i've played? Demon's Souls. It's a shame that the current gen. would like an easy button to play the game for them. As if all the generic shooters weren't easy enough.

to me "Punishing Difficulty" con is really a pro lol, so long as everything else in the game is nice

and i just saw that ninja gaiden 2 for the 360 has it too!

i only played the ninja gaiden sigmas for the ps3, but not the new one for the 360 yet. gotta check it out now

You can make game harder just by limiting what you can do. If Final Fantasy XIIIlimit the amount of CP you use.

probably demon souls or motorstorm 2. but thats because i only have PS3.

I would have to say Ninja Gaiden 2 gets my vote.

Demon's Souls by far. That game is just ruthless in it's difficulty. (It's name is pretty difficult to pronounce as well!)

all this talk of demons souls had me look up the video review, wish i knew someone with a ps3 so i could borrow it to play that game, it looks excellent! and i approve of punishing difficulty, really makes you get your moneys worth, and is a good test of gaming skills.

I wouldn't buy Demons Souls, since the game isn't all that great.

It's not a bad game, but the difficulty is over exaggerated. Many people have said it's a game that you have to pace yourself in, or that just running ahead is impossible.

I've ran through the most part of the Bolitarian Palace, 1-1 to 1-4, without getting hit once.

But aside from my stupidity and urge to run through things from boredom, if you do just take your time, the game is fairly easy. Other than spears, atleast for me, you can parry most weapon and counter to do massive damage.

It's hard, but it's not.

New Game + is a different story though.

I guess I got behind since I am still working on 8 haha.

Two PC games for me: X-Plane 9 and DCS: Black Shark

Resonance of Fate is really difficult, especially at the beginning and end portions of the game. The last boss took me 10 tries and 90 minutes to beat. Still loved the game though and it's one of my favorite JRPGs this gen behind VC, Persona 4, and ToV.

Its so hard that after a while its not even that fun. Its just frustrating. Get half way through a level and die only because theres a freaking trap that you can't even see, and now you have to start over. And guess what? Every time you die it gets harder.

Ninja Gaiden Sigma is probably harder on Normal than NG2 or Sigma 2.

Demon's Souls was really tough at first but once I got a hang of things I rarely died. The hardest boss for me was probably the False King

I actually thought this was pretty funny in comical in Demon's Souls. Most games give you hints or something if you get killed but Demon's Souls just get harder and harder until you have Pure Black World Tendency. I never had that happened to me but I can definitely see where some people may give up when they get to the point where every enemy kills you in 1 hit

Prinny: Can I Really Be the Hero? gets my vote. The game gives you 1,000 lives at thebeginning for a reason.

Are we limited to games released in the US? If we are, then DeathSmiles, it by far out does Demon's Souls. If we can use import games, DoDonPachi Dai Ou Jou Black Label EXTRA. That is the final stage on the game's only difficulty level.

I do agree with difficulty by being cheap is bad, like broken controls or a bad camera. But there's nothing wrong with a fair challenge.
