Now officially in my very long life gaming can say that by a long shot the hardest game I have ever played is...
Green Hell
amazing game, very hard, likely to be balanced but for now super hard
whats the hardest game you have played?
Ninja Gaiden 2. I usually avoid buying the "this game is so hard it'll make you rage" games in the first place, but the premise just seemed so cool. Then I popped it in and remembered I hate hard games and can't remember fighting game combos to save my life.
Demon souls and turtles on nes still have nightmares about that don't know anyone who managed to beat it.
Taking it old school and saying Adventures of Bayou Billy for NES. I never did finish that game. One of the few I never finished because it was that hard.
I’ve played so many games over my 40+ years as an avid gamer that it’s difficult to pick one. Some that come to mind are:
- Ninja Gaiden on the NES
- The Adventures of Bayou Billy on the NES
- Super Ghouls and Ghosts on the SNES
- Demon’s Souls on the PS3
- Dark Souls on the Xbox 360
- Ninja Gaiden Black on the Xbox
There’s probably more but those are just the ones that immediately come to mind.
1 . Ghost N Goblins
2. Ninja Gaiden 1
3. Megaman 1
All on the NES. Whoever had the Ghosts N Goblins, Gouls N Ghosts arcade machines must have made a killing back in the day, even if they were 10p a go.
Stated it a few times but probably the Double Apex Rajang hunt in Monster Hunter 4G. And did this hunt solo. It's not something someone should do if they have a habit of getting stressed easily., or overly angry when a game is exceedingly difficult. With enough gained muscle memory, and attempts, it is possible.
Second place is probably Akumu mode in TEW, I've beaten it six times now. Very similar to the above but it didn't take as long.
Master Ninja in Ninja Gaiden Sigma as well I guess.
Lastly done everything on DMC3 (all difficulty modes and challenge tower), and that's considered the most difficult in the series. And while hard, is easier than all the above.
*Love the Soul games but they're not all that difficult compared to the above. PvP is what adds 80% of the challenge and that varies from invader-to-invader.

its ironic that I have been playing games for 34 years and literally yesterday I just played the hardest game I have ever played and I am loving it. getting past 2 days in the game is an honorable achievement in fact.
normally I dont like hard games actually
@tryit: I usually don't factor difficulty as something needed, but welcome when handled well.
A good challenge gets us invested in an interesting way if the player likes that kind of entertainment. I can have fun with more laid-back experiences; however something about a hard game balanced fairly, is a personal joy ツ

I think it also depends on in what way its hard. So what pulls me in on Green Hell outside of the amazing graphics is that the challenges are based on realism (speaking generally). That is really cool
there were tons of games from the old commodore 64 / nes days that i remember as super hard. but that might have been relative to my age / experience. games like jet set willy, impossible mission (no misnomer), paperboy, ghosts n goblins etc.
but in the (reasonably) modern age the last really hard game i remember was x3 reunion. back in those days i was a seriously dedicated pc gamer but that game had one hell of a learning curve. unfortunately i don't have the time or patience these days to persevere with games like that with super tough barriers to entry
I'm sure I am forgetting some insanely hard NES games from back in the day b/c that console had some brutal ones, but in recent memory I'd say a lot of the Piranha Bytes games were stupid hard; if the crazy powerful level 1 mobs didn't get you, the bugs sure would :D
Clive Barkers Undying, scaring the shit of me
One of the few genuinely scary horror games. Hard as balls too.
@tryit:
Dark Souls
Bloodborne
Alien Xbox One
GTA 3
Crash Bandicoot 1
Twisted Metal 1 and 2
Tomb Raider 3 and Last Revelation
Shadow Man
Contra 3
Hang On
Every Sonic the Hedgehog game on Genesis
Super Turrican
Mortal Kombat 1-3
Super Ghouls and Ghosts

totally completely agree
but given I have been playing games for 38 years and that I just played a brand new games that is likely one of the hardest I have ever played I felt like it was a topic worth mentioning.
@tryit: You already replied to that quotation 9 days ago. It was a someone jolly conversation_
But cool, didn't know you've been gaming way before I was born.
Time lived/ gamed however doesn't factor the difficulty of games one plays.
Retro example- Streets of Rage is a much easier and streamlined game than Ghost n' Goblins. The latter being created with strict input precision and difficulty in mind.
