I played the demo and I wasent that impressed with it. The way they had like security alarms like in metal gear solid didnt work for it too much.noobkiller205
Care to expand on that? I havent played the demo, but am hoping my new laptop can manage it on good setting. Im glad this thread got bumped since I thought nobody had played the demo and I wanted to hear impressions. Sounds amazing and Im really hyped to get my hands on it!
Cant wait to play it.

you can plow the machine up fairly easily.
it took me almost 4 hours but its worth it. A 15 min demo with a lot to see. The gameplay was solid but i hit a glitch at one point where i flew backwards about 10 to 20 feet. No health lost or anything, so I don't know whats up with that, whatever... demo was great just trying to remeber only 7 more days until its out.
The demo seemed pretty good, although the whole time I was playing I thought to myself, "This would be so much better with a mouse." I wasn't that cracked up about the hacking mini game, unlike some of the other people here were. It really felt like it drew you out of the main game more than it should. Graphically, it looks phenominal, and the screenshots we've seen of it so far don't do it any justice. Atmosphere was top notch, as well, but you really can't expect anything less from the people that brought us System Shock 2. Of course the demo finishes too soon, just as things are getting exciting. Now I'm just waiting on the PC demo to see how well it will run for me, before Bioshock cements a purchase from me.Alaris83
The fact that it drew you out of the main game was actually good. It's nice to catch a break from the intense atmosphere of BioShock.
Ok so I just finished it. Wow! Like I said the graphics are top notch, and none of the video I've seen of it really do it any justice. The combat is really intense, I fought several splicers and a few security droid things. It is really fun to shock someone and then hit them with a wrench, very brutal... The hacking mini-game is awesome, it is essentially a clone of that Wnddows 3.1 game Pipedream... god you really will have to play it for yourself. It reminds me of the feeling I got when I emerged from the sewers in Oblivion, or playing Half-Life when it first came out. It has been a while since a game has blown me away like this.rragnaar
I had about the same reaction you've posted here and in other posts in this thread. I really wasn't expecting the game to look as good as it did. That starts right in the water after the crash, and then the game becomes even more impressive as you move into the city. I love the art direction in this game already.
The gameplay is a blast. Very reminiscent of SS2 and Deus Ex. I've been gushing about this game here and there since playing the demo. I planned on buying the game no matter what, but I didn't expect get so excited about it after playing the demo like I have. Bioshock seems to be shaping up to be the game I've been dying to play since Deus Ex. (Invisible War should have been that game, but there were too many changes to the fundamentals of the gameplay. The map sizes didn't help either.)

I played through it last night, though I was a little more rushed than I would have liked and had to run through some of the rooms. I want to play it again tonight and just sort of soak up the surroundings, since atmosphere is by far the game's greatest strength.
I'm not sold on the gameplay yet, but I'm chalking that up to having a small intro portion of the game and only a handful of weapons and powers. That or the game just looks so damn good it kind ofhurts the shooting segments by comparison.
But yeah, do 40s-50s era stylingwell and I'm sold. It worked with Sky Captain and it'll work here too. More games and movies need to use that rather than relying on lame sci-fi sort of stuff. It's also neat how Bioshock blends that with some messed up violence and screwy characters (I found the girl interesting but other than that one hilariously brutal kill I wasn't feeling the "ZOMG AWESOME!!1!!" vibe everyone else felt about her bodyguard).
Well after trying 8 times or so, I've given up on getting my 360 to play the damn demo without freezing. I'm afraid this is the straw that broke the camel's back, and I'm having it replaced. I'll also be calling MS to ask them how they plan to compensate me for all of time on Live that I've paid for yet won't be able to use.Teufelhuhn
And all that time you could be playing the BioShock demo, and then the game next week. :(

Yeah.....this game is badass. That's all there is to it.
It probably took me longer to DL this demo than it did to DL Shiverling Isles, but totally worth it. I don't think I've felt that kind of atmosphere and immersion since Metroid Prime in 2002. It really FEELS like you're in some underwater city. Amazing stuff. This demo seemsto just be scratching the surface of what the game offers, too.

Ah, that's right. I tend to forget the PC is a viable gaming platform since I've never had a decent gaming PC.

The Metroid Prime comparison is an interesting one. It came out during roughly the same point in the development cycle, and it was a pretty mind-blowing game, in that not only was the design totally in place, but the overall atmosphere of the game was simply superior to virtually everything else.
There's something about playing from a first person perspective. When the world is immersive enough, it just sucks you in like nobody's business.
even tho i was completely stoked on the game to begin with, i still was surprised by the fact that the whole thing.. well to be honest, OWNED.
more than once did i really feel creepified by the fact that i was trapped in a underarctica city filled with "drug-addicts". the one bad thing for this game(even tho i havent tried the retail version :P): it seems impossible to make a sequel i supose

At least I got 3 free months of xbox live with my 360 when it came back from repairs.
I have to agree with everyone else who has said about the atmosphere of the demo. I don't think there's been a game where i've had a Keanu Reeves 'woah' moment so soon into the game.
One thing I didn't like though was how your character voluntarily injected himself with the plasmids before having it explained to him by Atlas.

 Indeed.
And the Incinerate Plasmid was sitting amonst some rubble in a filthy bathroom no less. Well at least there is a sink to wash your hands up after.
