@Shmiity
You said you were going to make fun of the game...... Not me. I'm dissapointed in you.

@nutella_armor: If you like Far Cry 3 or 4 or whatever you mentioned you will likely like Stalker: Shadow of Chernobyl. Is it like Fallout 3 as you asked? Well, it's a first person shooter rather than an RPG but outside of that core mechanic they do have similarities such as an open world. In Stalker SoC however you will want to check in on side missions so that you come across notes on stashes. Otherwise you will be eating up your ammo when you travel. However, there is a factional choice so once you get to a certain point in the game you will want to pay attention to who your running missions for because once you help one, the other will be hostile. IMPORTANT: You will want to install the "2009 Complete" mod or "Complete" mod.
Wolfenstein: The New Order's gunplay impressed me. Weighty and great sound.
Yeah Wolfenstein was probably the last game that really impressed me... such a solid experience!
Also the story-telling in Walking Dead & Wolf Among Us is amazing.
u should play metro redux and far cry 4
I have to agree with you on Tomb Raider, it really impressed me also when i played it. Everything worked smoothly from the shooting to the jumping mechanics. No deaths felt cheap to me and this is the complete opposite of other Tomb Raider games where you die constantly from jumps or bad camera angles or bad something else. I'm not sure where they go from this but as long as any sequels play as well as this one they'll be a lot of fun to play.
Also was impressed with Saints Row 4, totally shocked me playing this game, i had no idea what was coming next, and unlike most games i didn't get bored playing it so i was able to finish it.
Biggest disappointment recently probably is Civ Beyond Earth. A very time consuming and addictive game yes, but why would i waste time in this game when i could play Civilization 5 and have more fun. I'm not sure what they were doing all the months they were making this game, it looks like a mod 1 person could have made if given enough time. They even re-used the text dialog from the first games leaders lol, how lazy is that.
The visuals and storytelling in Bioshock Infinite blew my mind. The gameplay was so bad that I didn't finish my first playthrough, but I decided to complete it on easy mode because I heard the ending was great. I thought the expansion packs to the game were complete garbage.
May just be because I'm something of an old fart now, but Dragon Age: Inquisition almost seems too open world for me.

This. Volition just nonchalantly whupped up a superhero game that can stand on its own, reinvigorating Steeport, with character driven zaniness. They just build and build on the fun. Saints Row 4 is a super-great game packed with fun activities and this is coming from a guy initially annoyed by the Saints Row early games as they seemed so borrowed. Glad to be wrong.
So, to recap. That's Stalker SoC, SaintS Row 4 and one more. Faster Than Light has also impressed me.
Do you try to make intelligent dialogue choices in games only to find out it doesn't matter? Finally a game that rewards you for paying attention to the in-game narrative(s). FTL Faster Than Light is suuuuuuuhweeeeeeet.

Ahh! Cool; thanks man!
Hyrule Warriors was definitely a surprise to me. I thought it would be pretty good because of Zelda and I like the Warriors games in general, but I didn't think it would have me hooked playing it constantly putting so many hours into it. I can't stop trying to finish the entire Adventure Map and now they added Amiibo support too, so I get 5 free items a day from scanning them. They've been pretty good rewards at times also.

Cool
It's extremely rare that a pinnacle of a genre is released and I may have never given any game in the history of my long gaming life a perfect score, but two such games were released in this past year.
They are the very best this industry has to offer with almost no faults to be had and an undeniable level of expert craftsmanship was carefully poured in to every detail of these modern gaming masterpieces.
These two titles happen to be Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze and Bayonetta 2. If you have any interest in either of the genres these games hail from, then you owe it to yourself to play them.
I think Shadow Of Mordor and GTA next gen both really impressed and surprised me. Shadow Of Mordor's nemesis system actually surpassed my expectations, which were high to begin with. It really did a great job of giving me reasons to return to the game, to the point that I actually was tempted at times to stop playing other games I had bought and go back to it. GTA next gen really impressed me in its first person mode, and not just because it was really well crafted. i can usually go around burdering people aimlessly with a clean conscience in a game, but I found GTA first person, for the first time in a game playing experience, to be actually disturbing. Everything felt much more brutal and suddenly transformed the world from a colorful playground to a brutal game that felt startlingly real. And the game devs did nothing to make this seem more brutal or dark, the simply changed the animations and camera angles, and yet, profoundly changed the way I viewed the game

I loved Donkey Kong Returns for 3ds, amazing from beginning to end. I have Tropical Freeze as well, It's not capturing my attention currently as much as Returns did (partly because there's so many games, older and new that I'm playing currently) but It is hella' fun. What I'm most impressed by, not only Freeze, but Returns as well is the difficulty sweet spot the developers have seemed to have master. It's hard, but not rage quit hard, and it's easy, so it's welcoming to a broad audience and multiple playthoughs.
Have not tried Bayonetta 2. Maybe a family member will gift it to me for the holidays!
