Poll Have you ever bought a game that you knew was bad? (17 votes)

Yes 88%
No 12%
No, but I have rented one 0%

I guess the only reason to buy a game that you know is bad is if you're a collector. It might even be a funny gag gift at someone's birthday. I have rented a game, back in the day, that I knew was bad; it was called Hour of Victory. It was a world war 2 shooter and it was horrible in every way. I wanted to see how bad it was, so I rented it.

Have you guys ever bought something like that?

C.O.R.E. For the Nintendo ds. It got bad reviews, but for fps fans, it said a playthrough may be worthy. So, I bought it.

This game was good/average, but had absolutely no reason to replay again. I sold it the month after.

I buy terrible games all the time when I see them in bargain bins at retro game shops or conventions or when traveling abroad. Often they are good for a laugh or do something weird. In particular I like Playstation Move shovelware as a guilty pleasure (I have 8 move controllers since I convinced my friend crew to just store theirs at my place when I bought sportsfriends and I was having parties where we would play 7 player JS Joust; incredible game by the way you should all play it)

Forspoken.

It was like 5 bucks and from what I gathered most people were upset because they paid full price, but it seemed like a "wait for a sale" kind of game. I enjoy those; $5-15, a few hours of fun, if you finish great if not no big deal.

The thing is, bad games are still games (and therefore some sort of fun)and I don't really every get that frustrated with the quality of a game I don't spend a lot of money on, unless it does something to piss me off. Like, for example, have WAYYYY too many cutscenes, or gameplay mechanics that fight the player and aren't organic, or really terrible aggravating story and poor story tellers (voice actors, writing, etc).

And Forspoken was like ALL of these things. Good grief...it is BAD. Like, don't even waste $5 bad.

And depressing, you know? To see so much talent and wealth just spent on the creation of a poor product.

Yeah, more often than I'd like to admit. Not really though.. I was big into game collecting for many years. Often times I buy games just to make my own informed and completely non bias assertations... :p

Joking aside, I usually find something to like even in my most disliked games, and I often times greatly disagree with the industry and status quo.

I always buy Ubisoft Ass Creed and Far Cry regardless of quality when they dirt cheap (ultimate edition, max $20). I dont even play them I just collect it all. Patiently waiting for the ultimate edition of both Ass Creed Valhalla & Mirage to go to that range heck I can wait until ubisoft release a combo combining both for $20. Must be the ultimate edition either that or no buy.

Yeah. But only cheaper indie games, not AAA shit.

An example is Phasmophobia, which I got to play with friends, despite thinking it looked terrible. And it is terrible. Looks like a game made in a week by someone in their moms basement. Despite being terrible, it's fun with friends, and I think I have over 100 hours into it by now.

Not that I think of.

I do sometimes take a punt at a game that I suspect I won't like. Sometimes it works out, sometimes it doesn't.

e.g. I shouldn't like Monster hunter. I don't like Time limits and I don't like grinding. But I bought Monster Hunter 3 on the Wii way back when and, after getting over a bit of a learning curve, really enjoyed it. The time limit and grinding didn't really bother me as the combat itself was fun.

Yes. I've had some good times playing pass the controller on a bad game with friends. We would try to find the cheapest under $5 bargain bin stuff and play them for laughs. No regrets.

I remember buying some games that reviewed bad, hoping they would still be good somehow and I could find the fun in it. One was Double Dragon 4. Yeah it sucks. I thought it might be OK, a lot of people hated on Double Dragon Neon but I ended up having a lot of fun with it, so I thought maybe the same would happen with 4. It was just uninspired and repetitive.

Yeah I bought Gollum last year, played it through to completion.

Was it bad? It was more mediocre/unremarkable.

I bought Daikatana which I still plan on playing.

I dunno, I've always had this creed where I'd keep my Steam Library free of bad games, but I'd sometimes buy a bad shooter just so I could play a shooter you know?

I'd also rather give new games a chance, instead of becoming endlessly addicted to this one online game. I'm also open minded to new experiences. So even if someone online says it's bad, will that truly be the case for me?
