Speaking in an investor call, following the release of Ubisoft's fiscal third-quarter financial results, company CEO Yves Guillemot made it abundantly clear as to why another Assassin's Creed will unsheathe its stabby things before April 2011. According to Guillemot, Assassin's Creed 2, which launched in November 2009 on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, has shipped 8 million copies. The original Assassin's Creed had soldjust as many by June 2009 -- roughly 18 months after its debut.

Although details regarding the new Assassin's Creed -- set to star Ezio and some online friends -- remain slim, Guillemot wasn't mum on milieu: "This time, [Ezio] will strike directly against the templar's order in Rome." Can this Rome be built in a year, just in time for Holiday 2010?JoyStick

I must say I was disappointed that we didn't get to experience the city of Rome in AC2 so I'm really excited about this. I hope to do some chariot races in the Colosseum. :D

I feel terrible for doing this now, and I probably deserve it, but I just traded in Assassin's Creed II yesterday. The previously announced DLC (The missing memory sequences) wasn't enough!

It's not DLC. You wont need your copy of AC2.

feels like it comes out too soon, anyone else think so too?

I tecnically have no problem with good games getting sequals, but really? 1 year after AC2?

This year already? I'm not keen on that idea, I personally think a game needs 2+ years in order to be good.

That's both amazing and confusing. I'm guessing it's more of an expasion pack?

In Renaissance Italy? You would be a few centuries too late for chariot races. You might run into Michelangelo perhaps, or Pope Clement. I can picture Ezio visiting the necropolis under St. Peter's bassilica as well.

I think UBI already had Rome ready for AC2, but chose to limit the experience in order to release a sequel in a shorter time. It's fine with me, since AC2 already has loads of content as it is. I hope they include Milano and Bologna as well: many, many spectacular landmarks to climb in those cities.

Well, another way to see it is that they've decided to warm up their binary leftovers and make some more money with it selling it as a new creation.

I still haven't had the chance to play ACII, but another installment before the year's end sounds too soon to me. Personally, I'm not a big fan of yearly sequels, but hopefully this might mean a price drop so I can enjoy ACII while everybody's playing ACIII.

Considering how good ACII was, I'll gladly take their "leftovers" versus yet another uninspired shooter, racer, or action game.

Sure, if it suits tastes, why not. I'll wait for that insipred shooter, hoping AvP will be that

Since people seem to be confused: it's a stand alone expansion pack. In a similar vein as GTA4's Episodes from Liberty City. So, no chariot races :D. Still, that was the one thing I thought when I finished the game: "Man, I wish I could run around in Rome". So I'm getting it for sure.

I'm excited for another installment of the franchise, though I'd like them to take their time. Holiday 2011 release seems more appropriate on a two-year window...but I guess it's all variable. They don't need to build an engine and many of the specific graphics can even be recycled if they stay with the Renaissance time period. I'll be happy if they devote most of the time to story and exciting action sequences.

Again... it's episodic content. Not a full-fledged sequel. They're going to recycle pretty much everything except for the new enviornment so it shouldn't take two years... ACIII is a long way off.

I was gonna say...Why would you play as Ezio again? That wouldn't make sense to be Ezio in a sequel.

I'd prefer they get to work on AC3. Ezio's story has been told. There's no need to keep dragging it out.

Oh I'm sure they'll be working on AC3 soon enough if they aren't already. This new content likely wwon't need the whole team to work on.

Well, I play just about everything and I trust my tastes more than your conjecture. It's fine that you assume this expansion is merely leftovers but you really have no evidence to support that. Given the scope and size of ACII, it really doesn't appear that Ubisoft held much back with the initial game and further logical deduction would suggest that if the expansion pack is going to take the better part of a year to see a release, it's obvious new material is being created from the ground up.

That said, AvP looks pretty solid based on the MP demo.

Upon reaching the final part of the game, I knew they had to be working on Rome for a future setting. Glad to see my wishes fulfilled.

Not sutre i like the idea of it A) So soon B) In Rome. I was hoping for a totally different country or perhaps set closer to the real time if you get my meaning.

Well, the fact that it's an expansion and not actually ACIII means they are using this as some sort of transitional chapter in the saga, which works for me.

As to setting, I think that inevitably it will lead back to the present but I'd like at least one more excursion into the past. Actually, I'd love for them to skip back a bit and maybe hit other historical time periods. We already have so many contemporary and futuristic settings for games so I personallyprefer the historical backdrops.

I think it would be pretty cool if they did it in Rome, only about 500 years earlier where you could help take down the Roman empire (and you'd most definately get chariot races in that) :D

Then why bother coming into this thread? To spread your own personal discontentment about a game that has received both commercial and critical success? Seriously, go play something else. Nobody is foisting this franchise upon you and you certainly don't need to troll this thread.

Again, this isn't a sequel. It's an expansion.

I agree about the multiplayer though. AC is a single player experience.

Good. Because I thought Assassins Creed III was supposed to be in modern times. I think thatd be pretty cool.
