Okay, I'm pretty much tired of not having MW2. I have plenty of good reasons to tell my dad why I should be able to buy, let alone play this game.

  • He lets me watch rated R movies, but rated M games seem to be a completely different thing to him.
  • Once he sees that the game is M, most of the time he red-flags it, or immediately rejects the idea of buying it.
  • The game isn't gory, which is what he really doesn't like in games.
  • I already own 2 M rated games, and he doesn't seem to notice or mind. (Halo 3 and Gears Of War 2 ((Filter On)) )
  • I've played the first, showed him, he even played (and enjoyed it) yet he rejects to buy this one.
  • I have more than enough money to purchase the game.
  • More than 80% of my friends are always playing MW2. He just got a 12-month card of XBL Gold for me, so its useless if I don't have it.

I'm going to say this and maybe more to my dad. But what I need to know is, what do I say in rebuttal if he says; "No, because I said so?"

Thanks guys.

Maybe he doesn't like war games or war generally.Or maybe a family member died in war or something.There's plenty of good reasons why people don't allow war games to kid's.But if it's Alien vs Human(example:Resistance then that's okay)

Maybe he's aware of the controversy surrounding MW2 and wouldn't want his kid to be gunning down civilians in an airport....

My whole life I've never had what other kids had. Sure you'll say "suck it up kid, and wait a few more years", but it all changes when you ARE the 14-year old kid who has Xbox Live, but all of his friends are playing a game he doesn't have.

wait outside of gamestop or whatever, wait till you see someone that looks 17+ give them your money and tell them to buy MW2 that or just get a friend thats 17 its not too hard man. and i dont see the whole controversy behind this slaughtering civilians in the airport level, you can kill civies in GTA, Crackdown, plenty of games i dont see why people are getting so butthurt about it.

1. Theres a difference in watching a Movie with violence in it and playing a game where you participate directly with the violence. 2. You are underage and as a result it's called good parenting. 3. While the game isn't as gory as Say Soldiers of Fortune, it has violence and the very controversial Airport Level which is not intended for non-mature audience. 4. Halo 3 is Rated Teen, Gears of War 2 however is something that isn't. Owning one mature game does not entitle you to more. 5. Again, Most likely due to the mature setting and controversial airport level aswell as your age. 6. Good for you 7. 80% of you friends has ignorant parents and you can spend a XBL gold 12 month card on more then just Modern Warfare 2. My advice, obey your dad and wait until you're old enough. The Game ratings are there for a reason.

I'm really surprised so many folks in this thread are supporting you and giving you advice on how to circumvent your father's boundaries. Perhaps you're not yet mature enough to appreciate a father that is concerned about your well-being and sets limits on your behavior. His number one job as a human being is to watch out for you and do what he think is best for your development. MasterBolt360, I'm not sure how much this'll mean to you - but playing MW2, or owning it (as I'm sure you can play it with your friends at their homes) isn't a big deal. The old "but the other kids have it!" excuse doesn't mean much. What matters is whether or not other kids have a father that's diligent enough to pay attention to his child's activities and set reasonable boundaries. Do I think it's a bad idea for a fourteen-year-old to play MW2? Depends on the child, obviously, but in many cases I'd say it's ok. But I'm not your father, your father is given the permission to set those limits for you. You'll appreciate it, eventually. MW2 isn't even that good, anyways. Cheers.

1) You are a minor and have to respect your father's decision.
2) It might have something to do with the controversial level, why he has decided not to let you play this one, but still have the first.

Once you are 18, you can do as you please. But until then, respect your parent's decision.

And R is different from M. R in the US is more like 16+ in the Europe. NC-17 is like M.

Why should I have to wait if all of my other friends don't have to?MasterBolt360

Just because your friends can play it, doesn't mean you should be entitled to as well. Your parents make the decisions for you. That's how it is. Everyone had to go through this same process at varying levels.

~~~
Also, there is plenty of other games available on the 360 that you can use your XBLG subsrciption for. Why not just keep playing MW and be happy you even got to play that?
ya know theres worse things that could happen if he played the game, i mean hell didnt you hear about that kid that killed his own parents, well his dad, because they took halo 3 away from him? i dont think hes going to go shoot up an airport just because he plays MW2.
Well no. Other parents are just UNDERprotective. When a game is rated as mature and a parent doesn't want their 14 year old son playing it then that's not being OVERprotective in any way. It's simly protective.
It sounds to me like you want it just because all your friends have it.... that's not a good reason for wanting it in the first place. You should only buy games/stuff in general YOU enjoy, not what's popular. *Oh, and when you say the whole "You don't understand, pretend your 14 and can't own whatever!" Most people here have done that. I had to do that until a few months ago when I turned 18 (meaning, I had to have a parent with me to purchase a M rated game) It isn't the end of the world to not own it. Just put it on your list, grow up some, then buy it at a later date. I assure you that there will be many copies of it in the future. Look for an alternative instead, the 360 only has 8459 billion awesome titles you can play.
This is spot on the money IMO.
Also to add to 1. Consider yourself lucky that your dad doesn't take away your privleges (not your right) to view those movies and GoW to give a completely consistent message on viewable content.
Also becareful of thisdeal just gets worse all the time happening.
wow, would you like some cheese with your whine kid? Honestly, theres a reason they don't sell M rated games to kids. Just like ciggarettes, alcohol, guns and the like. What are you complaining about anyway? its just another plain jane, boring, average FPS. Your not missing anything.
As an alternative, get Battlefield: Bad Company. It's rated T and is considered better than MW to certain degrees.
(Teamwork is actually a necessity, destructible environments, more game play variation etc.)
That's why there are ratings for games, it stops material unsuitable for minors from getting to their hands. Without these ratings videogame hating Nazis e.g Jack Thompson and Michael Atkinson will run rampant and would most likely get gaming banned in general.
[QUOTE="PetJel"][QUOTE="aerial6790"] dang...then ur dad is like overprotective or somethinMassEffect2
Well no. Other parents are just UNDERprotective. When a game is rated as mature and a parent doesn't want their 14 year old son playing it then that's not being OVERprotective in any way. It's simly protective.
HAHAHAHAHA they are over-protective . what is killing terrorists bad or something? sure it's rated M but a 14 year old should be able to play it 14 year olds learn about sex even . but no its too violent to shoot virtual bad guys
1. The reason 14 Year olds are learning about Sex now is not because they should go out and do it but rather that doing so as such a young age is illegal and they might get pregnant at a young age which isn't good. They seem to be forced to teach 14 years olds this because children nowadays are even having sex when they're 13 years old.
2. A 14 year old should not be able to watch or play anything targeted at Mature audiences, be it virtual or not. A 14 year old is not an adult. The rating system is there for a reason.
Ask your dad just exactly what it is about MW2 that he finds objectionable - if he doesn't really know anything about the game then ask him to consider renting it and maybe even playing it with you. Ultimately, as your parent, he should have the final say concerning what you play/watch/etc. at 14 years of age, but his decision not to buy the game for you might be based on ignorance and not facts...
You have Halo 3 and Gears of War 2, but can't get MW2? WOW. There is something deeply wrong with this picture.
Tell your friends to play another game with you. Problem Solved. BFBC2 is coming out shortly, there ya go. I'm 16 and i'm allowed playing M games, however i wouldn't want to play MW2 anyways. It's a terrible game (i only play it SOMETIMES because all of my friends think its god on a disk). Stick to MW1.
Thats unfortunate. My 11 year old daughter loves playing Co-Op with me and she even does alright playing versus. Some parents try to shield things from kids even though explaining it and treating them like mini adults usually goes along way. Never says a bad word, and still enjoys girl stuff but loves shooting zombies or commies.
Meh, war games are over rated anyway. They're just a big fad. Sooner or later, everyone will be sick of them and move on to something else.
Maybe he's aware of the controversy surrounding MW2 and wouldn't want his kid to be gunning down civilians in an airport....
Raikoh_
That's a pretty legitimate reason. Plus, some would argue that a 14-year-old should be playing games appropriate for his/her age.
I don't really get what the fuss is about lately. I could understand complaining about a 6 year old or so getting their hands on it, but most 14 year olds I know are mature enough to know that what they're playing is nothing buta game and not reality. But then again, this is coming from a guy who's been playing rated M games since I was 5.
Okay, I'm pretty much tired of not having MW2. I have plenty of good reasons to tell my dad why I should be able to buy, let alone play this game.
  • He lets me watch rated R movies, but rated M games seem to be a completely different thing to him.
  • Once he sees that the game is M, most of the time he red-flags it, or immediately rejects the idea of buying it.
  • The game isn't gory, which is what he really doesn't like in games.
  • I already own 2 M rated games, and he doesn't seem to notice or mind. (Halo 3 and Gears Of War 2 ((Filter On)) )
  • I've played the first, showed him, he even played (and enjoyed it) yet he rejects to buy this one.
  • I have more than enough money to purchase the game.
  • More than 80% of my friends are always playing MW2. He just got a 12-month card of XBL Gold for me, so its useless if I don't have it.
I'm going to say this and maybe more to my dad. But what I need to know is, what do I say in rebuttal if he says; "No, because I said so?"
Thanks guys.
MasterBolt360
XBL absolutely doesn't need any more children playing MW2, I personally hope you don't get it.
Yeah, but another 14 year old playing MW2 is another annoying voice on xbox live.
Well, not all 14 year olds are annoying.
Their voices are. There's a reason games are rated M--so people don't have to listen to that nonsense.
