I'm a geek but, I don't understand the tech behind game engines. Naughty dog is a very top shelf studio, and every game they made since jak and daxter tpl has had no loading times. How does a game studio do this with limited hardware like the ps2.

Well, Uncharted 2 has an extremely long loading time when you first start up your file, but after that it's quite smooth in that regard.

They will constantly stream in data for the next portion of a level, based on where you are in that level. So say there's room A, which leads to room B, which leads to room C. You start in room A, and room B is already loaded. You walk through room A, and eventually into room B. After you walk through enough of room B, you hit a trigger and room A gets unloaded while room B starts getting loaded in. By the time you can enter room C, it's already loaded with no load times. If you decided to go backwards back to room A, room C would get unloaded and room A would get loaded back in.

Yeah pretty much

also games like God of War III have loading times in their cutscenes. That's why you can't skip them

Two Words: Blu-ray. No that's one word separated by a "-".

It's called Precaching and it's a piece of dark wizardry and hellspell.
