I've been thinking about this since I began playing "Space Siege," one of the absolute worst games I've had the misfortune of buying.

It's so bad, I've had a way too much fun playing it and finding new ways to get killed by the game's numerous flaws.

It has inspired me to write an editorial in the near-future about my experiences, but it would be too one-sided. I'd like some input from as many people as I can find.

So... the question is: What do you do when you get a bad game? Do you try to get your money's worth out of it, then trade it away? Do you even bother trading it in (preferring, instead, to turn to into a coaster/Frisbee/anti-zombie weapon)?

Thoughts?

Depends. If I got the game as a gift, I do my best to get through it to honour the sentiment of it. If I bought it, and it really got on my nerves, I would just resell it. I've only done that with a few games though. Most games I buy I keep, but I'm also pretty easy to please.

First, I give it a chance. Then if I still don't like it, I just trade it for store credit. Good examples from my experience: 1. Suikoden III - Thought the game was bad at first. Didn't play it for a long time. But I gave it a chance and got into it. Loved it. One of my favorite RPGs. 2. World Ends With You - Didn't like it. Wanted to like it, but couldn't get into it. Traded it the next day.

I give it the review it deserves, tell all my friends how bad it is, then never play the game again. Usually I trade it in.

usually I just play the heck out of it to get my moneys worth. And as long as its not like a 50 hour RPG and if its really bad,I will get together a bunch of my legal gameplaying freinds and turn it into a drinking game, the same as people do with anything thats really horrible in media.

Like Conflict:desert storm. that game was horrible, but its amazing how fun it can be with 3or 4 freinds,a couple of 30 racks and a capone and noriega custom soundtrack. Ended up getting more of my moneys worth out of that than I have a lot of "good"games.

Hehe good Shaun Of The Dead joke. Anyway, I beat it and trade it. I haven't played a bad game since I've stopped trading though. The internet makes me have only informed purchases of games.

Uhmm it's half and half. Sometimes I try to play it and keep it, and other times I just trade them in for store credit.

I'll sit down and suffer through it because I bought the game, so I might as well play through it. And who knows, it might grow on me and I might decide I like it.

I do my research before I make a game purchase, so I rarely end up buying a "bad" game anyway.

same here. I am happy with my collection ATM and only game I can remember of hating is 'Omikron : nomad soul'. I played it once before giving it to my friend (who liked it more than me). P

Lately I've been doing a lot more research before I buy a game, but if it's bad I'll just ignore it for awhile and play something else. When I come back to it, and it's still bad after giving it a fair chance is when I ebay the sucker.

I love bad games...so long as I can have my "quality" titles on hand. It makes me appreciate the range of different ones available to this day.

agreed! I have the fortune of working at one of this city's few games stores and I get to loan titles for a week to tryout, so that's handy on deciding if I should invest or not in a game. (can I just note, in my view, the majority of games out on the market aint worth buying, especially at the prices for new)

if I ever have the miss-judgment of ending up with a game that I 'hate' then I just trade it ASAP. value drops so fast, especially on the 'sucky' titles.

I kind of also agree with garathe_den, having a range of titles in your collection lets you appreciate games more as a whole. aint nothing like a quick bash on a title that kinda sucks. obviously there are titles that you should never own because they suck so SO bad they don't even register on my games radar - lol

so to conclude, if you don't like it, trade it. if you get little for it as trade then it's probably a representation of the games quality and popularity.

Well since you're stuck with it. Sell on eBay or Craigslist. Definately research the game...reviews, demos, etc. Can always trade it in at Gamestop or EB.

If so bad I can find no enjoyment in it, I would trade it in immediately to try and cut my losses. The last few bad games I had fortunately rented or bought cheap and found something enjoyable from it (playing with my sister or the battle scenes of Viking Asgard) so will perserve in those kind of cases.

I usually only get bad games as gifts lol, in which case I stick it through to the end as I had to do with Red Steel. I usually give a game a chance right up to the end, although if its a rental I dislike it goes back right away.

Ive really never bought a bad video game for my PS2 or PS3, I usually will only buy games that have had positive reviews and I am positive I will like, such as MGS4. Any other games I will usually rent before buying. If I did buy a bad game I would try to play it as much as possible to see if there is anyway I am wrong about it, after giving up I would probably try to sell it for anything.

If the game is really bad I would probably remove it and give it to someone, but if its mediocre bad then I would

at least give it a chance and try play throught it once, then I'd never play it again!!!8)

Oblivion was the last game I bought that I truly hated. I tried multiple times to trudge through it and I could never get more than a few hours into it. I ended up trading it in for a loss...but I was still happy that it was gone.

I usually just stay the course, play through it and talk bad about it to the people i know. It then helps me appreciate the better games. Sometimes a game is so horrible that I have to go back and play a game I really liked just to cleanse my mental pallete. Odin Sphere did this to me so I went back and played some Deus Ex to put my trust back in games.

I play bad games all the time, it helps me to appreciate the good ones. Like right now im playing Rise Of The Argonauts which is about as fun as waking up beside that pretty girl you took home last night only to find out she is hairy and not so much a girl (it happens). Then again I am a mascochistic degenerate so take that as you will.

Wow, I like that. I'm the same way.

When I'm browsing around on craigslist.com for fun and see ads like "PS3 game for sale, unopened blablabla" (or even a PS3, Wii, 360 system itself) and within the ad the seller says he/she got it as a gift I get so angry haha.

Well, First of all I'll regret ever buying it for 5 minutes, unless it was agift, that's another case =D

Some examples: one of the worst, The bouncer on ps2....that was such a bad game.

However, I end up finishing 'em....sad, isn't it?

My rejected list of games is quite high, since I'm REALLY hard to please. If the game is of the liking of friends or relatives, I tend to keep it (for some rare ocassions). Some examples (in my case) are: Mario & Sonic @ Olympics, Mario Kart Wii, Wii Sports. Other games that I rather buy to myself and that don't give me a decent first impression HAVE to go away IMMEDIATELY (trade in). In my case, the best example would be Civilization Revolution (it doesn't have the things I like from the PC version!).

I don't care from where it came from, it just has to be a near-total pleaser in order to stay with me.
