A game that gets away with it is Bioshock, where you kill little girls to become more powerful.

What kind of messed up people made that mechanic? At least you have the option to save them.

@hxce: It is funny in fallout you hit them with a mini nuke and they stand up and walk away... but it breaks immersion so thats bad...

Exactly, It totally kills the immersion. All or nothing.

I dont think it would be in good taste to have games where you could go around killing children. Its not a good look. Children are vulnerable and innocent and need protection they don't need to be portrayed in games and films as fair game.

I'm not some sadist or anything who wants to go around slaughtering kids in games, but I do agree that if you're going to put children in a game where adults can be killed, there should be some sort of ability to kill everybody, not just treat children as some sort of unkillable saints. i find it stupid when people try to act like its better to play a game where you slaughter hundreds of people but don't kill a child. Though this might sound a bit insensitive, people are people, and its just as bad to kill an adult as it is to kill a child. if you don't want to put kids in your game and you're uncomfortable with the idea if harm coming to kids then you don't have to, but if you put them in the game, don't treat them as some special scenario that are somehow worse to kill than any other person in the game world. Killing a person is killing a person, the size doesn't matter

@Bigboi500: If he or anyone including yourself has a need to kill children, fake or not, then those would be the people with physiological problems that at the very least need extensive counseling.

How old are you? There is a difference between the real world and video games.

But if you want to do it your way. I recommend you to follow some extensive counseling for killing poeple in GTA and Uncharted.

Couldn't have said it better myself.

Right or wrong it's just human nature to view the death of someone differently depending on their age both in fiction and in real life. While people can feel sympathetic towards both most people generally feel more when hearing the death of small child. It's like that in regards to humans and animals. Some people can watch a movie where humans get killed and not be moved all that much but as soon as a dog dies they burst into tears.

I already sort of addressed this. The whole supposed reason why killing kids is supposed to make people uncomfortable is because kids are innocent and pure, etc. However, this ceases to be the case when the kids ACT like total assholes. I already pointed this out with the Fallout games. It's not just that the kids are THERE, it's that the kids are fucking assholes. If killing them is wrong because they're innocent and pure, then they need to ACT innocent and pure.

That's right. Some of the kids in fallout 3 and Skyrim are just entitled little douchebags.

But I remember once when I was doing an evil playthrough of fallout3 - what got to me the most was when I killed a trader - and then her dog came to defend her and I had to shoot it. I was like "oh Jeez, what have I become?" lol

I felt so bad about killing that poor innocent dog!
