So how do you feel about Sega in general?
I personally think that Sega was amazing company that had many great games and if they didn't make so many bad decisions they would still be in the console market(maybe).
So how about you all?

The only good thing they've done really in the past decade was Valkyria Chronicles. And that's enough for me.
Sega were pretty good before their fame went to their heads, which ended up in them making really bad mistakes like the poor advertising for the Dreamcast, lack of games getting full releases for that system, the Saturn not reaching it's potential, the mistakes made with the Mega CD and 32X. And how the Sonic series ended up going from fun to disappointing.
It's a shame that Sega made so many mistakes like that, if they hadn't they might still be going and there would beanother console on the market.
R/T
They are actually a real good publisher now. Their in-house stuff is hit or miss really, mostly miss besides Valkyria Chronicles, but they are still involved in quality stuff. It isn't as bad as some want to believe.
I don't think I've ever played a Sega-developed game and liked it.

Not even their old Genesis stuff? Cause sure, if you started playing games on the Playstation or something that is understandable, but man, the Genesis had a ton of great games Sega made. The only recent ones that are good are Super Monkey Ball and Virtua Fighter really, and I doubt you played either of those though.
I didnt like sega as a kid. I actually traded my sega system (I cant remember it's designation but it was their first console) for a Turbo Grafx. I like them now because they help produce games like Total War:Medieval II.
I hate Sega.
I feel like I've been screwed by them way too many times, and I still go back to them like abused spouse.

Nah, I wasn't really that interested in games back then (especially console games). I was a Commodore 64/Amiga/Nintendo kid. I remember a friend of mine had a Sega Mega Drive, we always gave him crap because of it, haha.
I like Sega. They contributed a lot to the industry. They're the pioneers of downloadable content on home consoles for instance. Don't believe me? Look up the Sega Channel. You could download games on your genesis with the right tools. People even got to play games before they were out. They were known as "test drives" and you could only play the game for about 15 minutes each time you downloaded it. So they pretty much started the playable demo trend too.
I really liked my Sega Genesis. I played it all the time when I was younger, Mortal Kombat, Sonic's, Mickey Mouse Adventures (lol it was a fun game). It was a cool system with good games for it. But I agree with the above. Right now the only thing I know from Sega is Sonic and even those games are terrible IMO (the new 3D ones, though Sonic adventure 2: battle was pretty good). I'll always love the old side scroller Sonic's though ('cept Sonic 1 >_> I could never get more than like 4 lives in that game and always ended up dying. I don't think I ever finished it either) Oh yeah, and Game Gear was nice for a bit, though it took six dang batteries.I loved Sega when I was growing up. Although in their current state they are practically worthless.

I could edit in quite a bit more into your response, but there is no need too since you pretty much given the gist of what SEGA has accomplished over the years in the industry.I have always loved SEGA. While they have been breaking my heart over the past few years, they still put something out once and awhile that warms it. They still show signs that some of what made SEGA so beloved is still there. Which is why I haven't written them off. The current industry is not kind to the type of stuff SEGA use to put out.
Great post

Let's not forget that Sega fought for the right to make games that weren't babysafe. When Nintendo (who specialized in babysafe games) got Congress to hold hearings on mature content in games, rather than retreat into censorship, Sega stood their ground and the industry is better for it. Granted, game developers don't have quite the freedom makers of movies, books or music do, but the gap has narrowed.

Sega usedto be good, they lost their touch
Sega has ALWAYS been a lousy hardware company. They had one successful console (genesis), but everything else bombed. Hell, even the genesis got run into the ground with all the stupid gimmicky add-ons they put on it. They're a great old-school game developer, but the last game I enjoyed by them was space channel 5.UT_WrestlerOdd. I thought they consistently made the highest quality hardware of any video game company. My Master System, Genesis, Saturn, and DC have never experienced a single hardware problem. I can't say the same for my NES, PSX, PS2, or 360.
Sega has made some fantastic games over the years...... but they made lots of mistakes.
the PC version of Golden Axe was the first game I ever played in my life (or at least the first I remember) back when I was 3 years old, that game.... in1992 for a little kid was awesome so in a way I can thank Sega for helping me get into games.
nowadays their record is mixed, Valkyria Chronicles is amazing but Sonic Unleashed is kinda.......meh
Sonic Heroes also kinda sucked

Good point. I never had any tech issues with my Sega systems either. I'd argue the only one of their systems which was graphically unimpressive was the Saturn (which didn't push polygons well and wasn't good at special effects either).
I think they have some of the best series ever, they just dont know how to use them anymore....now whos up for a new jet grind radio?
Let me post something I wrote elsewhere:
Find me a company that has made so many classics in so many different genres.
Action/adventure - The shinobi series, one of the finest action series of the 16 bit era. Streets of Rage, one of the greatest beat em up series ever. Golden Axe, eh not so sure about this one but its a classic for some strange reason. Aladdin, this one is a freaking classic, if you played it you know how fantastic it is. Hell all their Disney games were excellent, Castle and World of Illusion, or how about Quackshot.Yakuza, awesome evolution of the beat em'up, sorry you hate it, huge hit in Japan for a reason. I have heard Comix Zone is really good, need to play it still. Jet Grind Radio, another beloved game oh and the first cell shaded game ever. I dont know if this fits but Toe Jam and Earl, one of the most unique and awesome games I have ever played. Ecco the Dolphin, one of my all time favorites, a great blend of action and puzzles, such a unique character, the DC game was great as well. They made amazing Zelda like games in the Wonderboy series and Golden Axe Warrior.
Platforming - Sonic, need I say more. Other than Mario the best platforming franchise in the history of the medium. Sonic 2 is one of the best games ever made on any genre, on any system. No matter what some haters seem to think, Sonic Adventure was an extremely highly rated, well loved transition from 2D to 3D for the series. But it didn't stop there, they had Ristar.
RPGs - One of the biggest most respected RPG series ever, Phantasy Star. They did the traditional thing through the 16-bit era, and then totally changed it up and created the best online RPG on consoles with Phantasy Star Online, which to me is one of the greatest games ever made. They have created strategy RPGs like Shining Force or Valkyria Chronicles. They made all time classics like Panzer Dragoon Saga and Skies of Arcadia.
Fighting - Not only INVENTED the 3D fighter but created what is still the GREATEST 3D fighting game on the planet in Virtua Fighter. But did they stop there, no. They had their take on the MK scene with Eternal Champions. They made other hits like Fighting Vipers, or Fighters MegaMix.
Mech games - Virtual On, one of the most loved mech combat game seriesever made. I dont care for it so I dont know much about it.
Racing - Created the most popular arcade game EVER made in Daytona USA. Made the best rally racer at the time with Sega Rally. Created one of the first 3D racers in Virtua Racing. Sega GT a comprable rival to Gran Turismo in a time where theer was no competition for GT. Plus they had old classics like Outrun.
Sports - Theyhad thebest football franchise ever in NFL2k (before any of you whine about dev crap, Visual Concepts was fully owned by Sega back in the DC era, so yes it was Sega). THE FIRST ONLINE SPORTS GAME ON A CONSOLE, in NFL2k1. The best basketball franchise in NBA2k. Back in the day they were the first company to include commentary during a football game in Joe Montana 2. They had the best baseball series in the world in the 16 bit days with World Series Baseball. They have a great hockey series as well in NHL2k. The best tennis series in Virtua Tennis.
Arcade - Sega is I think the best arcade developer of all time, while some companies focused on one time of game, Sega covered everything and from the beginning till now. They had tons of arcade classics back in the day, as I mentioned Outrun, Space Harrier, Afterburner to name a few. They were pioneers during the shift to 3D. TheVirtua Cop series laid the foundations for the tons of 3D light gun games to follow. House of the Dead is one of light gun games best series. Crazy Taxi was one of the biggest aracde hits and an excellent console game as well. Even their licensed games were killer, Star Wars arcade is so badass, it deserves its own console game. They owned the arcade.
Shooters - The Panzer Dragoon series is probably the best 3D shooter series ever made.
Puzzle - Didn't make much history here but hadplentyofpuzzle series with Columns, Mean Bean Machine, Chu Chu Rocket, Puyo Puyo games.
Crazy weird games - Sega didn't just make traditional games, they always pushed the envelope making some of the weirdest games ever. Seaman, does it get any weirder than that. Typing of the Dead, some people love it. And the king of all odd games, a game that made up its own genre, Shenmue, which sorry buddy, its a masterpiece. Nights, I cant say its a platformer cause you fly, its more of an ontrack, high score, I dont know what it is but again another classic.
And I am probably missing a bunch more. They have classic games in nearly every genre they have covered, not even Nintendo has covered the ground Sega has. They were pioneers in the gaming industry, they created formulas that others followed, they lead the charge for online gaming on consoles. Very very very few companies have the game library, the influence, and logetivity that Sega has had. It doesn't matter the era, they are still making beloved games, in just these past few months they released Valkyrie Chronicles and House of the Dead Overkill, two highly rated games, VC in particular is loved on message boards everywhere.
Thank you. Sega deserves NONE of the hate it gets today. They have been and are a great company.Odd. I thought they consistently made the highest quality hardware of any video game company. I thought there were some Saturn games that had impressive graphics. The art style and shear amount of 2D madness going on in Guardian Heroes is pretty impressive to watch. VF2 was a pretty slick looking game for the time. Plus, Radiant Silvergun is both technically impressive (practically no load times) and pretty graphically impressive (pretty slick 2D/3D hybrid) for a game of the era. Leave it up to Treasure to make the most of the hardware they have. But, it did take developers a long time to actually capitalize on the capabilities of the Saturn hardware. And a system that is capable of doing things we only ever hear about isn't much use to gamers.Never cared for Sega before, still do not really do so.
I grew up as a Nintendo kid, and never really bothered to get any Sega system, up to this day I do not think I even played a game from Sega, other than acouple of Sega gamegear games...that I didn't even like.
I'm sure they've made a great amount of games *looks at Dvader's post*, I just never really got into Sega myself...

That's a great point and it makes me wonder why people still dry-hump Nintendo despite them being one of the greatest douches in the industry. SEGA has made plenty of mistakes but as a publisher they've released some truly great software recently while Nintendo is redefining suckage on an epic level. Without Miyamoto and a few talented in-house developers, Nintendo would have nothing to offer anybody but the ultra-casuals.
My point is that if people really want to piss all over SEGA then those same people better have plenty of fecal matter for the big N, because in many ways they've dropped much further from grace than SEGA.
