[QUOTE="CarnageHeart"][QUOTE="dchan01"] Odd. I thought they consistently made the highest quality hardware of any video game company. My Master System, Genesis, Saturn, and DC have never experienced a single hardware problem. I can't say the same for my NES, PSX, PS2, or 360.dchan01
Good point. I never had any tech issues with my Sega systems either. I'd argue the only one of their systems which was graphically unimpressive was the Saturn (which didn't push polygons well and wasn't good at special effects either).
I thought there were some Saturn games that had impressive graphics. The art style and shear amount of 2D madness going on in Guardian Heroes is pretty impressive to watch. VF2 was a pretty slick looking game for the time. Plus, Radiant Silvergun is both technically impressive (practically no load times) and pretty graphically impressive (pretty slick 2D/3D hybrid) for a game of the era. Leave it up to Treasure to make the most of the hardware they have. But, it did take developers a long time to actually capitalize on the capabilities of the Saturn hardware. And a system that is capable of doing things we only ever hear about isn't much use to gamers.I didn't mean to say that there were no beautiful Saturn games (Panzer Dragoon, Iron Stormand VF Remix were beautiful), just that the hardware limited developer's options more than PS1 did in terms of 3D games.
It was odd that Sega missed that particular boat given that its software developers (especially Yu Suzuki) were some of 3D gaming's most important pioneers.

Great post
Let's not forget that Sega fought for the right to make games that weren't babysafe. When Nintendo (who specialized in babysafe games) got Congress to hold hearings on mature content in games, rather than retreat into censorship, Sega stood their ground and the industry is better for it. Granted, game developers don't have quite the freedom makers of movies, books or music do, but the gap has narrowed.
That's a great point and it makes me wonder why people still dry-hump Nintendo despite them being one of the greatest douches in the industry. SEGA has made plenty of mistakes but as a publisher they've released some truly great software recently while Nintendo is redefining suckage on an epic level. Without Miyamoto and a few talented in-house developers, Nintendo would have nothing to offer anybody but the ultra-casuals.
My point is that if people really want to piss all over SEGA then those same people better have plenty of fecal matter for the big N, because in many ways they've dropped much further from grace than SEGA.
I could not agree more! I definitely like Sega much more than I do Nintendo today. My point is that if people really want to piss all over SEGA then those same people better have plenty of fecal matter for the big N, because in many ways they've dropped much further from grace than SEGA.Grammaton-Cleric
I'm in the clear then. :P

Nintendo has made plenty of great software recently too, whether it be on the DS or Wii, many of which I wouldn't consider "redefining suckage on an epic level". And maybe people still support Nintendo because, oh I don't know, maybe because people still like their games? And how is Nintendo being the biggest "D-bag" in the industry? They aren't doing anything very differently, honestly. They are still releasing the games that made people like them back in the day (Mario, Zelda, Metroid, etc.), and with the Wii you can play those games that made you like Nintendo back in the day again with the Virtual console (or even Sega games such as Sonic, as well). I do not understand how people can say that Nintendo has abonded it's fans or whatever, considering they are for the most part still releasing the same games they usually do, plus catering to it's fans even more by making the Wii the first backwards-compatible Nintendo console, whether it be NES, SNES, or N64 games on the Virtual Console, or any gamecube game in general. So with that, I do not think nintendo has fallen from grace at all. Atleast Nintendo knows how to not kill their icon. :P
If you don't like Nintendo anymore and like Sega more, that's cool, but to call Nintendo a "D-bag" is a bit much, no? You can make a point clearly without making your post sound so system wars-y. :?
[QUOTE="UT_Wrestler"]Sega has ALWAYS been a lousy hardware company. They had one successful console (genesis), but everything else bombed. Hell, even the genesis got run into the ground with all the stupid gimmicky add-ons they put on it. They're a great old-school game developer, but the last game I enjoyed by them was space channel 5.dchan01Odd. I thought they consistently made the highest quality hardware of any video game company. My Master System, Genesis, Saturn, and DC have never experienced a single hardware problem. I can't say the same for my NES, PSX, PS2, or 360. I wasn't talking about dependability, I was referring more to marketability.

Nintendo is the same Nintendo it was in the latter half of the GC days (at the encouragement of its current fans, clinging religiously to its old franchises) but its not quite the company it was in the old days (first year GC, N64, SNES, NES). At one point it had a few Western developers under its wing and gave those developers permission to develop original games (RC Pro-Am, Perfect Dark, Body Harvest and Eternal Darkness spring to mind). Nowadays the only Western designer Nintendo has (Retro) is chained to an ancient Japanese franchise.
I am not questioning its parting of ways with DMA, Rare or Silicon Knights, but in recent times no group has occupied the same position the Westerndevelopers I named did (making original hardcore games). Its worth noting that even Miyamoto apparently no longer has permission to make original hardcore games (Pikmin didn't do all that well).
Granted, one does not hear Nintendo's current fans voice such complaints because anyone whose idea of heaven isn't the 99th attempt to recapture the spirit of Mario 64 and Zelda 64 jumped ship some years back.
Last but not least, Nintendo's attempt to force the industry into censorship was a really messed up move, and I don't see how anyone can defend it or dismiss its importance.
Better off as a software company, case in point: Total War series.thekodaman
To be fair, all they did was publish that. They haven't MADE an awesome game in forever aside from portable Sonics, which are getting kinda old anyway, or Valkyria Chronicles, which will only appeal to you if you like Final Fantasy Tactics and friends.

Virtua Fighter 4. And depending on the person, Yakuza. Also HotD Overkill has gotten huge praise.Oh man, I forgot about Virtua Fighter 5! Yeah, Sega is hurting right now, but at least they still put out some awesome games once in a while. They aren't totally dead yet.
