I have a new system where I’m playing my collection from the oldest release date to more newer games.

Example 90s>2000s>2010s, so basically in chronological order.

But I’d love to hear some thoughts. How do you tackle your game “folder”.??

I just play whatever game I most feel like playing at the time.

I buy a lot of games. Or I used to, I'm trying to slow things down and work through my back catalog.

I've recently adopted a stance of "one game at a time" (plus a secondary game, like a multiplayer-only game or a project game like a city-builder).

It's helping me focus on finishing a game, and with the added benefit of making me more productive in my personal life since I tend to get a little bored after a couple hours.

Anyway, how I organize my games is in Steam I have different "collections". I have my favorites, where only the most replayed or most-played games go. Then I have my backlog; these are games I tried and liked but, for whatever reason, gave up on.

As for how I pick what games I want to play, I generally load a game and give it a try for a few hours. If I find myself enjoying it, I will keep playing it.

If I find myself wanting to play something else, I will uninstall it and move on to a different game.

But always obeying the "one game at a time" rule.

@mrbojangles25: yeah. I buy and I buy too many games. I have FOMO. That’s why.

But nowadays, I’m following my own personal strategy as I’ve said in my post.

I play whichever game catches my attention when I'm looking through them. Sometimes it's overwhelming with all the games I own, but I have a few franchises and games I've been prioritizing recently since I kept pushing them back over the years. If I started with my earliest game on my backlog and moved up I'd likely never even make it to 1990 before it was all said and done.. lol. Right now I'm playing Deadside, Siege, and You Suck at Parking. For my backlog I'm working on FFIV pixel remaster, and wanting to start tackling Tales, Atelier, and Ys games next.

@WitIsWisdom: yes, it’s a pretty difficult endeavor. It’s better to go forward with a good strategy and time allotment.

I only have a few unfinished games but in general whatever I most recently get.

If it's a franchise I go in order.

What Arch said. Could be my latest purchase or a 20 year old game. Whatever I feel like for the moment.

I usually juggle (3) games at once of different genres and play them depending on what I'm in the mood for. It's usually an RPG, Open World, and Strategy game I'm going back and forth between.

I usually have one single-player game as my main thing, and a couple arcadey things (usually fighting or racing games) that I play when I'm in the mood for something else. But every time I get through my main single player one, I tend to flounder from game to game for a bit until something sticks. No real method to how I pick what to do next.

@judaspete: that’s a cool strategy. I think fighting games, sports games, and racing games don’t need too big an effort to get started. It’s that one main game where you have to concentrate on for story and save states.

Depends , I just go by whichever takes off the most by interest and continue to see where I can expand on them if i see further potential.

It is simple for me. Xeno games first, then everything else.

I will finish a big game before I move on to another one, and I will just pick based on what I feel like playing, it's not usually based on what's new.

When I feel like playing something, I do. Nothing more too it.

It's usually by genre though. Binge a ton of Survival Horror games, FPS, 3D Slashers (most recent) as such tend to like playing a bunch of similar games back to back to get it out of my system with something different on the side that isn't being binged.

Usually I rotate around three games at a time; one that can be seen as a massive time sink or very bloated in other areas, a smaller game, and a multiplayer game. Just for some variety.

Great question—my backlog is a bit of a mess sometimes 😅. I usually prioritize based on a mix of what I’m in the mood for and what I can realistically finish. If a game has a strong story or time-limited content, it usually goes to the top of the list.

For more casual games like puzzle or word games, I keep them on the side for quick breaks during the day. I’ve been playing a lot of word games lately, and when I hit a wall, I’ll sometimes use a tool like this word solver to keep things moving. It’s super handy when your brain just blanks out on a 7-letter word. 😂

Curious how others are juggling their game stacks—any good strategies?
