If you've had to replace an xbox 360 console, how long did it take before it wouldn't work any more? If you haven't had to replace your xbox 360 console, how long have you owned it?

I'm on my second, my first one only lasted a few years. And a couple of nights ago a little bit of spilled Kool-Aid splashed onto the front of it...

Bought the one I have at the moment about a month after Halo 3 was released. Still working flawlessly.

3 months away from the 3 year warranty. I remember reading about microsoft extending the warranty to 3 years. Thought the rrod fiasco was a load of crap at the time, and then it happened to my xbox.:(

The most upsetting part for me wasn't that I even got the rrod, but that my 360 was an "occasional" use machine and was very well kept--as in if I were to box it up It would pass for new. rrod happened, and when I sent it in, it came back in worse shape--sure it worked, but other areas of the machine don't work as smooth. It feels like the case isn't skrewed on.

I also remember marking the unit, being curious that maybe microsoft had loads of refurbs they randomly sent out.

Varies from person to person. I still have my first 360, and I've had it for a year and a half.

I've had three since launch and my third is on its very last legs. The DVD-rom drive keeps getting DREs.

I had an original xbox that fell from a combined height of a pretty large stand and a television three times and kept working. My xbox 360 fell from the upright position to the flat position a few times, and not long afterward I got a RROD. The Kool-Aid I just splashed on the front of this one didn't get into the console though, it just splashed on the top and on the front and didn't get in anything so it should be in very good condition. I've left this one in the flat position since I bought it so nothing can happen to it. I'm hoping it lasts years, because I don't want to have to buy another one. :(

The one I just bought is an Arcade... I had a 20GB hard disk for my normal one, but I'm going to get a 60GB disk now. I don't understand why they have to have problems so often. Falling like mine did is a better reason than just not working, but still... I've had my computer for around 4 years and it still works perfectly. I haven't had one problem with it. They should figure out a way to make all their consoles last about 10 years if nothing happens to them.

I have two.

One is the Modern Warfare 2 LE Console, and is fine from purchase.

The other has been replaced by MS twice, and was initially bought at launch. It was replaced once in 2006 and once in 2007, it has been fine since, although it was dropped from a shelf four or five months ago, causing the front LED to go out (I assume its just a loose connection, but I haven't bothered to look) and the tray is sometimes janky now.

Though in my experience, this hasn't been unusual, my X-Box broke (Drive went out), my PS2 broke and I know maybe 5/20 gamers whose original PS1 didn't break. My genesis also broke twice, so it isn't just Sony and Microsoft. In my personal experience, VG hardware isn't reliable unless it has the name Nintendo or NEC on the box, though I wouldn't exactly call the original NES free of problems either, what with all the flashing screens and blowing, but all three of mine work to this day.

The only reason holding me back from buying 360 is that damn RROD.

My launch 360 broke in it's second year. Since it was shipped back it has lived to this day.
