Just out of curiosity, how many of you actually trade/return your games back to gamestop or EB games? and how many games do you normally trade/return? I personally have only traded around 2 or 3, and decided to stop after they offered me $2 for animal crossing lol.

I used to do it a lot, but not anymore, cos you never know, a few years down the line you may want to replay the games you traded in.

So true. I remember trading in MGS twin snakes and getting around $10. I thought it was a great deal until I realized that not only was it hard to find now (at least where I live), but also moderately expensive for a GCN game (still around $50 on amazon). Not only that but I felt like playing it again, and popped in the original one on PS1, and couldn't get passed the dated graphics. Big mistake on my part.

I'll trade in games every now and again, but only ones that I know I'll have no desire to play again.

For example, last weekend I traded in FIFA 09 and Ninja Gaiden 2 (both for Xbox 360). FIFA 09 was great, but it's not something I'd want to play again because FIFA 10 is out and it's a much better game. NG2, I've had since it launched almost 2 years ago. It was a decent game, but not as good as it's predecessor, and in the time that I've owned it I've never felt compelled to finish it.

I agree with most that EB/Gamestop don't give you much credit (or as much as one likes to believe it's actually worth), but it's much easier to just go there, trade it in, get your credit, and buy a new game you actually want to play rather than do the Ebay or Craigslist thing. Besides, I don't think I would've received much more for those games anyway.

i used to never trade my games in, but then i realized it is worth it some times to trade games in. for example i have a huge collection of ps2 games i never play. all i play these days is xbox 360 so really i should have traded in some of those ps2 games back when it was worth it. recently i traded in a few of my 360 games into amazon for credit because i realized i won't play them much if at all. i got assassin's creed 2, MW 2, gears 2, etc keeping me busy so there was no point to keep my old 360 games like burnout, left 4 dead, etc.

I do it all the time. I just get bored with lots of games and never play them again after completing them. Last games I traded in were Dead Rising, Burnout Paradise, Riddick Assault on Dark Athena, BIA Hells Highway...and I got GRAW 2, Cal of juarez bound in blood, ace combat 6 and Tekken 6...and I will be trading almost all of them soon...I;m gonna keep tekken though, it;s awesome

I dont understand why anyone would buy a game and then effectively sell it back to the people they bought it from at a significant loss. If youre going to do that, why not rent the game?

I keep all my games. Never know when you'll want to play them again.

Depending on what game it is i will trade it in if i can get something like $10-20 for it. If that doesnt work i usually just post them on the internet and ill usually get a decent amount of money, so i try to do that more often. Post them on craigslist and give it a try, if they are in good condition youll get a decent amount of money.

As a collector, I don't trade in any of my games. However, I'm glad some people do, as it makes it really cheap for me to buy more, lol.

This, plus it just doesnt seem worth trading in your games considering what you get for them.

Never. If I want to buy a game. I want to keep it. Not trade it in for something else.

I never trade games in, because I never buy games that are of a temporary nature in the first place. I buy only what I know I'll be coming back to for years to come.

I dont trade games at all. Like I wouldnt be interested in mw2 multiplayer so i'll just rent/hire it and play through the story instead of trading it.

Occasionally, but not often. If I do trade something in I usually have an ulterior motive (like Fallout 3 or SF4 prior to the release of their GOTY/expanded versions) and I never do it in-store, just online through Goozex or Ebay or something.

I've done it a couple times, but I tend to shy away from doing so, as I much prefer keeping my games around so that I may replay them, if the urge to do so ever arises.

Not anymore I don't. Gamestop gives you garbage prices for games. I don't even sell my games anymore really, not even on Ebay. I never know what I'll want to replay in the future, or what games will become rare.

I do trade from time to time, especially if I want a new game really bad and Im short on funds. Generally Iam against it as It really hurts industry sales and I feel that gamers are getting ripped off most of the time. I find it rediculous that in you can buy a game new and bring it back a few days later recieve half or less than what you paid for it. They might give you $30 for a hot new title and then re-sell it for $5 less than the new price. I will always pay the 5 extra bucks and get the new version.

Another case where I might buy a used game is if they have some crazy bargains. I remember picking up Tomb Raider Underworld for $14.99 in a bargain bin when the new game was still selling for $50. Every now and then some one makes a few pricing blunders and you have to take advantage. I don't feel bad for the publishers of Halo, or COD games cause those games will sell well no matter what, but its the little guys who get hurt the most by the public buying there used games.

Two great title that instantly spring to mind that were great in quality but low on sales were Beyond Good and Evil and Psychonauts from a few years ago. Bad sales can often determine if a game gets a sequel and in the case of Psychonauts its a shame we won't get one. Companies would rather make ho hum movie based game tie ins cause they are a safe bet to sell fairly well despite the game quality.

If I have one general complaint with game prices in general is the fact that we go out and pay $60 for a new game and end up paying $10 or morefor dlc that comes out within a few months of the games release. I believe that most of this content is ready on day one but is held back to milk the product for more revenue.I have paid over $100 for my Gears of War 2 game and it's dlc. Just crazyness man. So buying a used game is like giving these companies the finger, but somehow the message never gets through.

I remember when a gamestop employee said to a customer, there's no point in keeping games you don't play anymore. Yeah right, just because your sick of the game now doesnt mean you will be later is that a sales pitch to boost business of gamestop at the expense of the customer.

I don't do it very often I only sell outdated games or games that I know I'll never touch again (usually because I couldn't even be bothered to finish them).. Yesterday I dumped off Smackdown vs Raw 2008 (one day I'll get a newer edition), Condemned 2 (terrible compared to the first), and a Gundam game that I got for free. Those are the first games I've sold in years. Really, I make more of an effort now not to buy games that I'm unsure of until they're dirt cheap, which makes it not worth the effort of reselling (or more frequently, I don't even buy it because I don't care by then).

That's the other reason. Fiscally, trading games in doesn't make much sense. Selling them to friends or via the Internet usually yields more funds.

I haven't traded a single game in almost a decade. And if I ever was inclined to sell one of my games, I'd probably use ebay to get more money.

Once or twice a year, I look through my games and see which ones I'll never play again then take them down and trade them in at Game. Price isn't great by any means so just put it on my account there, let it build up over time

I do all the time. If I know I'm done with a game, or if I just don't like it, i'm not keeping it. That's just a waste. I'm trading it out to get something I might actually enjoy for it.

I'll never understand that.

Even if you don't get much for trading it in, isn't getting a little something better than getting nothing at all?

I understand collecting, but I've run in to a lot of people who don't collect games that keep ones they hate/will never play again just because they don't think they'll get enough if they sold them

I'm the type of person who'll replay a loved game years after the fact. But if I've played and beaten something and have no desire to play it ever again then it feels selfish to just keep it for no reason. I'd rather trade it back and let someone else take a crack at it.

I have a self-imposed rule that I will not trade in my games, mainly because I'm a collector, but also because it's a rip-off. I love having a big collection, and always find myself going back to older games. But I'll admit, I have traded in two games in the past few years.....1) I traded in my regular copy of 'Oblivion' for the Xbox 360 when I got my first RROD, and used the credit to buy a copy of 'Oblivion' for my PS3. At the time I was so addicted to the game and couldn't put it down, and I also had the collector's edition for the 360 anyways, so I figured this was a good option.....2) And this past November I traded in my copy of 'NHL 10' for the 360 and used the credit to buy 'Dragon Age : Origins' for the 360. I've just had too much hockey over the past few years and had no interest in playing anymore in the near future, and figured I'd trade it in while it still held some value. BTW, I'm done buying annual sports games.........Other than these two trade-in's, I can't see myself trading anything else in in the future, but who knows. It's definitely not something I'm a fan of.

I think for some, such as myself, pleasure to some degree is derived from the mere possession. This materialistic impulse can be overcome when receiving financial compensation. However, if the compensation does not seem adequate to the quality of the game, or the transference of ownership, it doesn't feel like an acceptable barter.

For example, if I was offered $40 for any one of my games, it would be tough for me to pass up. However, if I was only offered $5 for any one of my games, I wouldn't take it, as I would prefer to have the game remain in my collection. The parting with the game is worth more than $5 to me.

I usually trade away games that I don't need in my collection, or have found a better version of it. I rarely trade away games, but if I do it's almost always to invest into other games.

The fact that you see used games are ridiculously overprices on the shelves are proof enough. I've taken a small collection of games to gamestop and the price they quoted me was so pathetic I sold it at a higher price and made sure they were not making a prophet off me. A select game like Left 4 dead 2 is 59.99and the trade price would be 35 or less. They then say they referb the game and put it back on the shelf and sell it for 52.99. They make too big of a profit off you so don't give in and see if you can find a buyer first. Trade if your desperate.

Quite a lot. I used to literally trade in almost every game, but now I've got a decent collection since I'll keep the ones I really love and will play again. But even a lot of games I liked i might trade in if I know I won;t play it again, like Fallout 3 and infamous.

I haven't ever traded a game. When I got a 360, I gave away my original Xbox and some games to my brother in law, and I still regret it. Even more so because the system and games got stolen shortly afterwards.

I used to sell games when I was younger, but now I'm afraid I will regret selling games, so I keep them. Unless they are just plain bad.
