How often do you push a game's play time?

By this I mean piecing together your own "very hard" difficulty, or using the game for other means like machinima or tutorials for new gamers? Personally, I aim for making the games I play more challenging. However, if you extend play time in any other fashion, post it here. Heck, you might just make a game more fun for someone else.

If you mean like Mass Effect, just going through the story mode is pretty short, but if you do every side mission, it extends the game considerably, and its more fun to boot,

I usually only play til I beat the story/single player. If theres a hidden secret of some sort like an easter egg or something cool to be unlocked I'll try and do it. Howver if its just for the sake of completing and I don't actually get anything for it, I won't bother with it.

I try to beat every shooter I have on the hardest difficulty. In some cases (Call of Duty/Veteran), this can take forever.

I have always been a "100% the first time" type of player. Unless the game expressly requires 2 playthroughs for 100%.

Reason being, i rarely play stuff twice unless it was supremely excellent so i try to get everything done the first time.

I like to play the game through side quests and all the first time through.

On the first playthrough, I tend to concentrate on finishing the game's story, then on the second playthrough I collect any Easter Eggs/extra stuff and start finding more ways I can manipulate the gameplay/try different tactics for certain levels/bosses instead of the ones I already used. 2nd playthrough is sort of like the experimenting stage for me rather than the 1st. I do this with almost all games depending on whether they have extras. After that, on the 3rd playthrough, I attempt the harder difficulties.

Well, for an example, try Marvel: Ultimate Alliance. First play through can take a while, but after finding all the secrets you can go through almost any other difficulty in about 5, maybe 6 hours. However, play a normal or easy game and then save at one of the early save points ( I suggest after getting away from the Helicarrier). By doing this you can play hard dificulty at a much lower level than your supposed to, which makes it way more challenging. If you try this, I suggest training to Lv.15 with characters you plan on using before starting "very hard" because if you don't, beating Bullseye is impossible. Also, make sure you play with friends.

Yeah, if a game is good who wants to make it go fast. Slow and steady wins the heart.

I always just play through the first time just for the story. After that, I play again and try to get all the little extras. Any subsequent playthrough depends on how much I really enjoyed the game (e.g. I've played through San Andreas more than a dozen times).
