I really would love to see a new sega console. Will it happen I doubt it but I never say never.I think sega is just what video games needs right now.I believe that sega has the experience, and the creativity to be more than competitve.Ya they had a lot of failures with the sega cd,the 32 x,and the saturn, and people say the dreamcast failed but if you do a little research the dreamcast did really well.Sega got out of debt with it and the sales were still not bad even when the ps 2 ,cube, and the x box came along.Rather than risk going back into debt though sega pulled out but they really didn't have too. They figured they would do better as just a developer.

I think sega was great and they were not afraid at all,to go into unknown places.Look at the sega CD...it inspired nintendo to make plans for a cd add on that later became the playstation.Look at virtua fighter the first true 3-d fighter.Sega had so many great franchises and i'm not just talking about sonic. They also pushed out products that were just great and many of them.Look at sonic, ecco the dolphin, streets of rage, skies of arcadia, nights, bug, crazy taxi, nfl 2k,virtua fighter, panzer dragoon, phantasy star and many more. They had a bigger first party line up than nintendo and many were top notch. Now I don't mean better I just mean that they were great competition for the big N.

Which brings me to hope that sega will one day enter back into the console market because I believe that they have what it takes too be a stiff competitor again.Does any one else hope that sega may make a comeback. What are your thoughts on this?

I don't think they can anymore though. I'm pretty sure Sega was downsized after the Dreamcast failed. Why do you think they don't make as many amazing franchises as before, and games like Sonic are terrible now?

Anyways, Dreamcast is my favorite system, and if by some miracle Sega became as large as they once were, and said they were coming out with a new console I'd get it day one.

Sega does still make some good games but I agree with teh recent sonic games, but it seemed like they made way better games when the were trying to support a console.

The videogame market simpy can't support another console. It would be doomed to failure. Sony and Microsoft aren't going anywhere, and I would rather have a Nintendo than a Sega.

But maybe they could make a Game Gear 2. I'd be up for that.

As far as I'm concerned, Sega's only problem was that they were too advanced for their own good. Their systems were great and they ushered in this new era of gaming with the Sega Saturn and the Dreamcast. But again I think their only problem was that they gave gaming something it wasn't ready for, and the bigger companies like Nintendo and Sony scared them off. If Sega were to bring in a new system now, I think they would be able to compete with the current 3 systems dominating the market.

Sega Vision sounds interesting, first I hear of it. Id love a new Sega conosole. When they first dropped out of hardware they were asked in an EGM interview if we'd ever see another Sega console and they said "never say never again". So it might happen but not for a very long time unfortunately.

I hate how everyone complains about currentSonic games. Thier not that bad. Sonic Adventure (part1) had all the boring gem-hunting and shooting elements that people complain about and even fishing, which is even worse yet most everyone loved SA and it had very high scores. Only Sonic games that have disappointed me are "Black Knight" (very short and quite easy) and Riders (spastic controls ruined for me).

I know everyone complains about Sonic 06 but I thought it was fine. I finished it a long time ago and my only complaint was the loading times, gameplay was fine for me and many others obviously since many people have finished it with 100% which is even harder than what I did just beating the 3 stories and Final Battle.

If they came out with a new Sega console and put a new Phantasy Star Online and a good Sonic game(With Chao, of course...=D) on it, I'd be sure to pick it up ASAP. =)

I think the only way for Sega to beat the 3 other console is they have to make a console with low price ,lower than WII and maybe someone will for it. More over they need many good developers to create game for it,t just Sonic game

the problem with Sega now is that they dont have the capabilities they had back in the 90s, back then, Sega had the ability to support a console almostby themselves, and most of their games were great.

now Sega doesnt make as many titles and usually not as good, considering Sega has far less money then Sony, Microsoft or Nintendo, getting support from third parties and advertising the console would be very difficult for them

I'd love to see it, as the Genesis is one of my favorite consoles ever. But being honest with myself, I doubt it. The Dreamcast nearly ruined the company (not that it was a bad system) and that wasn't too long ago. Now seems a little soon to be discussing a new system when the last one lost them so much money.

I'd welcome anyone who can make a decent console, but I really don't think Sega, or many other companies, have the means to get back in the race at this point. Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo dump such huge amounts of money into their systems that I think that it'd take another giant company to get involved with any chance of competing.

I think if Sega just re-released the dreamcast software on Live arcade and PSNwould be enough of a boost to their profits that they could, in theory produce a new console, plus, games like Shenmue would receive the attention it clearly deserved back in the day.

I'd love to wake up monday morning and find that Crazy Taxi, Jet Set Radio, Head Hunter and of course Shenmue 1 and 2 were on XBLA!

whetheror not this would ever happen is clearly a pipe dream. You were right to say that they have such fantastic old IP that deserve an update. but i believe that instead of sinking funds into a new console... i reckon releaseing their existing franchises on a digi distribution system would do the company credit.

we already have Streets of Rage and Sonic. We NEED these old titles... Shining the holy Ark, Burning Rangers, Panzer Dragoon, Shining in the Darkness, Shining Force 3( the full complete story, not the single scenario released in the uk.), NiGHTS(not the Wii game. the saturn original but with updated graphics), ThunderForce, DRAGON FORCE, SHENMUE, Dark Saviour, Die Hard Arcade, JSR, Skies of Arcadia, House of the Dead, Deep Fear, and god knows how many more.

fat chance of it happening though. esspecially Panzer Dragoon Saga... sega lost the original code YEARS ago...

They can't come back into the crowded console market today, if they did it'd just end up biting them in the backside. Most of thier franchises have ended up on other consoles now and unless they can magically regain the trust of the developers they lost post Saturn-pre DC, then they won't have many third party titles at hand either.

The handheld market however.. it's more likely, but is there enough room for 3 big-wigs competing in the handheld divison? I did catch wiff of a few rumours about a no-button handheld system from SEGA, using 'touch sensors' that nod towards arcade machines rather than the DS' touchscreen. No doubt it'd have alotta' ports of arcade titles, which could work well on a handheld device. But with the SEGA Vision, that looks to be bogus and it appears they have no plans as of yet to re-enter the hardware side of the gaming industry.

The Sega Vision, unfortunately, will just be a portable media player with little focus on games. It'll only play Java titles.

It'd be nice to see them back soon, but IF they do come back.. it'll be a while off yet.

I agree that right now the console market is too crowded i think that if there were less console systems out there then SEGA might have a chance, and I dont think that if SEGA were to make a handheld that it would be a big seller. I am just saying that because i am not a fan of hanhelds so i probly wouldnt get one if they came out with it. if they ever come out with a new console I would buy it on day one.

If they made a hand held DC... I'd get it! that would be awesome!

I'd buy any console they made, even if it was populated with just sega 1st party stuff and re-releases. but, And i believe this totally. i really think this gen will be the longest running gen. and if that's the case, we could still be buying new 360's and PS3's in4-8 years time. and i honestly think that this gen will see the last ofpackaged content.especially if it lasts for another 5 or so years. it's all going DLC...

my son, or your children, won't EVER buy a single peice of tangible content, music, movies or games! it'll allbe DLC.

Sega will have an awesome future of cheap to deliver games and instantly accessible back catalogue... maybe! lol

I've been drinking... excuse my fantasy! :P

I may delete this post when i come to

I don't think everyone here realizes that the MS Xbox and Xbox360 was the evolution of the Dreamcast. Many many many times Sega has stated that they will not be producing Dreamcast 2. And they have a good reason because they've already created it...the xbox and 360..it just doesn't have the Sega Dreamcast logo when the console boots up but i rest assure that it is the evolution of the DC.

I agree with some of that but I really think sega has what it takes to support a console again.I say that because you don't want your console to fail and thats why first party and exclusive games are the reasons for buying a console. With sega's huge game library and the experience they have I think that they could not only come back in but also even maybe knock one of them out of the competition.I know that some will say ya right but I say they know what they are doing.

Now call me crazy but I think that the video game industry could support another one.People said that it could not support 3 of them 5 if you count the DS and PSP,and 6 if you count the PC.Then microsoft said that it could and it did. Many gamers buy more than one console. Many call me crazy for this too but I think sega has what it takes too take out one of the current competitors. Many say how is that?Well sega pushed inovation and they know the cost of it,so I don't think they would be pushing it like they did with the 32 x,saturn and sega cd.Sega is also known for putting out great NEW games.Thats what people want.Ya sure I want to see some of my old franchises again but I also want something new too and sega put out great new franchises with every console. The saturn we got see, sega rally championship, panzer dragoon, and nights. With the dreamcast we seen crazy taxi, shenmue, and skies of arcadia legends. Sega is also known to cater the all gamers, they had sports games, games for everyone, more violent mature games and just pretty much any thing you could want. I say that if sega wanted to they could crush some of the competition but it would take an effort still I think they got what it takes.

Sega will not come back - ever. The company was acquired by Sammy in 2004 and restructured; the "Sega" today is Sega in name only.

Time to move on...

oh god no....a new sega console means no more total war games....that would be a disaster. nuts to a new sega console. its selfish i know...but if i have to choose between the total war series and a new sega console then its the total war series every time.

Sega=Video Game Brand

Sony= Major Electronic Brand FAR BIGGER than just video games.

The difference between the 2 is MONEY. If sega loses money they have nothing to back them up and therefore they shut down (consoles). If the playstation loses money there are SO MANY other items made by sony to generate positive revenue. The Playstation brand could lose money every year for the next decade and as long as the rest of sony's item are profitable they can afford to keep the Playstation going. It wouldn't be smart business wise of course, but it will ALWAYS be an option. The same can't be said about Sega.

Needless to say companies like SONY and MICROSOFT aren't going ANYWHERE no matter how bad you or anyone else wants them to

Ask yourself this, what good will Sega do for themselves and the industry if they were to come back? Im guessing you have fond memories of playing Streets of Rage and Sonic am right? People need to realise what they are saying, its just silly, because those games are now old and for most cases, thats all the Sega they know. Sega are doing great as publisher/developer and lets leave it that way.

Console gaming have become extremely competitive compared to a decade ago. If Sega were to come back to the console business I'm not sure they can cut it considering majority of their titles have been lacklustre the past couple years. I love the classic Sega and if they can become like how they were then I see no reason why they shouldn't get into hardware once again. Im sure they will be able to kick major ass if they have launch titles such as Shenmue 3, New Phantasy Star etc.

Never presume to know when Sega's going to release a new console. They seem to like keeping people guessing on that (see: Saturn US Release).

I don't think everyone here realizes that the MS Xbox and Xbox360 was the evolution of the Dreamcast. Many many many times Sega has stated that they will not be producing Dreamcast 2. And they have a good reason because they've already created it...the xbox and 360..it just doesn't have the Sega Dreamcast logo when the console boots up but i rest assure that it is the evolution of the DC.

If it is the evolution then where are all the great sega games?

Sega eventually made Shenmue 2 (xbox), Jet Set Radio Future (xbox), Panzer Dragoon Orta (xbox), Sonic (xbox 360), Sega Rally (xbox360), Crazy Taxi (xbox), Sega GT (xbox), Sonic Collection (xbox, xbox360)...many many more. Now, obviously, only people who love Sega will always continue to play them like myself. The biggest difference is the memories of me and my Genesis, Saturn and Dreamcast cannot be replaced.

The videogame market simpy can't support another console. It would be doomed to failure. Sony and Microsoft aren't going anywhere, and I would rather have a Nintendo than a Sega.

But maybe they could make a Game Gear 2. I'd be up for that.

yeah I agree. A portable console would be more likely . if they made a gamegear2 or something like that, I'd probably get one. The NOMAD was just way too big and expensive.....

Imo, they shouldn't come back into the console market. I truely believe they should focus on making XBLA/PSN games and making them at a high quality, like a new Sonic or Streets of Rage.

Sega should come back to making consoles. I think they can pull it off. If they have an awesome launch tittles. Like maybe a new sonic,Shenmue,Virtual fighter,Nights, and get some other 3rd party developers like EA and activision (which some say was a huge mistake of Sega to not get EA to support the dreamcast)...hopefully this is not whishful thinking....hey while we are on the subject remember when Sega trademarked 2 names (renegade and something else) whatever happened to them?

Nights got a sequel and wasnt so great. Virtua Fighter is on PS3/360 and its fantastic. AFAIK, Shenmue was a huge bomb and Sega have since moved on.

The thing about Sega is (at least in the USA) they only really had one hit console which was the Genesis. Other then that they floped for nearly a decade. They could easily jump back in the ring but it's debatable if it would be a good move for the company. It be interesting if they do make a new system.
