*ahem* on topic, Smerlus would you say it does the Fallout name justice? Or should we go in with a fresh mind? F1Lengend

I'd say a fresh mind. Just the graphics and first person view automatically make the game feel like something totally different. Then there's the fact that there is already 6 or 7 things I've found to read from notes, to data tapes and things like that. In the old Fallouts , you'd be lucky to find 6-7 things throughout the entire game.

I love the combat much more than the originals'. Now if I come across a group of Radroaches, the battle is over fairly quickly instead of the drawn out turnbased combat. I have used VATS a few times to slow the pace of the game down and take care of a raider with a machine gun.

The hacking and lockpicking minigames are fun and it isn't like Oblivion where, if you have enough time, equipment that you'll succeed. There are simply things you can't do until you get your stats up to a certain rank.

I think the way this game gets labeled as Oblivion with guns so far is that the presentation is very much like Oblivion. When you talk to someone, the view changes to where you're right in the person's face. However there are a lot more dialogue options and usually different ways to answer ranging from polite to rude.

I don't know what effect Karma has on the grand scheme of things but so far I've helped some people out that raised my karma and I've stolen a bunch of things which lowers it a bit.

I think just with the combat and graphics changes, you're going to have to come into playing Fallout 3 with a different mind. Then with the likeness of dialogue (which you'll probably be doing a lot of) you'll automatically think of Oblivion. So far I have yet to see how deep the RPG elements go so for now it's give or take.

Oh and the way the towns are a seperate loading screen and even some buildings are seperate loading screens reminds me of Oblivion and is a little disappointing. I was hoping to be able to sneak by windows and take out enemies but that's simply not possible.

I'm playing Fallout 3 on my PC fully maxed out and the game is gorgeous. I've been playing for almost 2 hours now and I just finished strolling through a elementary school and killing a bunch of raiders.

Cool! I'm running a Core 2 Duo E8400 @ 3 Ghz, 4 gigs of RAM and a 8800 GTS, so I shouldn't be too far off from yours. Thanks! :)

Blargh. I have a feeling I'd have to drop settings enough on the game that it would hinder my enjoyment of it - 2Ghz Core Duo, 2GB RAM and a 512MB 7900GS Go, although my biggest hassle at the moment is the lack of hard drive space I've got. Too much crap to delete.

Though if the game's performance compares to Oblivion maybe it wouldn't run that poorly.

I picked up the game tonight and will have impressions and junk up tommorow. I caved and got the 360 version because they had the collecters edition there and it is super awesome. I got the bobblehead sitting on my computer desk and he is wicked cool.
