I always hear people complaining about in game advertising. My thoughts are that as long as the game takes place in a current setting it can be a good thing. I mean, I feel more immersed in the game when I'm in a hotel bathroom and see a sign for some hair loss stuff or something. I mean that is where it should be in the real world. But when it gets ridiculous like in crackdown (they are selling 2007 ford models in the future??!?!)

So, agree, disagree, half way, what are your thoughts?

Tasteful advertising that makes the game seem and feel more realistic, always a plus. Out of the way advertising, like for cars on some distant planet, bad.

Depending on the game, and how it's done, i don't mind. I don't care if i see some ads for real products around the rink in an NHL game. Even in Crazy taxi, it didn't bother me that people wanted to go to KFC and Pizza Hut.

But that's as far as it should go, IMO.

The Ads in Crazy Taxi were great, because they were actual buildings and destinations, not just a simple billboard.
Its yucky to see a billboard for an AMD or other current product while you're in a futuristic war, though.

For certain games, it's acceptable, I guess. Like modern games that are trying to convey realism. Still, I rather not see them at all. Especially games like an FF game, or some other type of fantasy game. Developers should do what Rockstar does with the GTA series by making up advertisements. It was pretty funny too.

Let's face it, developers are getting REAL greedy now a days. They're trying to convince us that shorter games are what we want to play, they increased the price of video games up to 60 bucks for PS3/360 games, and now they're going to put advertisements in my game that I paid money for? They should at least deduct some money off the selling price, it's getting ridiculous. When I watch HBO or Cinemax, I don't expect to see any commercials, because I paid for the service.
