I have tired now of GC and PS2 and wanted to play Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask, but for that I would need a N64. Is it worth it to buy that system just for those two games? What other games could I buy for N64 besides Super Mario 64 and Banjo-Tooie and Kazooie? Is it even worth it? Where would I even buy a N64? Does GameStop sell them or would I have to resort to eBay?

It's a great console, but just like the Gamecube it's really all about the exclusives. Anything multiplatform was usually also on PS1 or Dreamcast and performed better on those consoles. But the exclusives were great! -007: Goldeneye (The best multiplayer shooter of it's generation) -Doom 64 (This was actually a different game than Doom) -Donkey Kong 64 -The Legend of Zelda: The Ocarina of Time -The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask -Paper Mario -Starfox 64 -Super Mario 64 -Super Smash Bros. The biggest flaw of this system, though, was it's controller. Despite all these great titles, the controller was awful. You almost had to have 3 hands to use the whole thing. If a game required you to switch to the D-Pad or L-Trigger it was frustrating as heck. -Nate-

Only thing is if you hook it up to an HDTV it will look terrible. But if you have a SDTV, go for it.

Very, very much so! Those two are awesome, but others you might want to try are Goldeneye, Perfect Dark, Wave Race 64, Pilot Wings 64, Star Wars Shadow of the Empire, Blast Corp, Pokemon Stadium, and a lot of others. And why don't you want to play Banjo Kazooie or Super Mario 64? They are awesome!

I would definately say it is worth it. It should be fairly easy to find a N64. Look at used game stores in your area. If you have a Vintage Stock then they will almost always have one.

You can get both of those Zelda games on the GC. OoT was released along with OoT: Master Quest (the 64DD version with redesigned levels meant to be harder) as a preorder bonus for Wind Waker. There was also a disc you got as an incentive for subscribing to Nintendo Power that came with OoT, MM, and the two NES zeldas. Last I checked (which was a couple years ago) both discs went for around $40. You usually find both at Gamestop and you can definitely find them on eBay.

That said, the N64 was an excellent system and well worth owning today for all the great titles that were on the system.

Is this a trick question? Of course the N64 is worth it. It is an amazing system and has quite a few great games besides the Zelda franchise.

for just those 2 games it's not worth it but it is for mario 64, star fox 64, banjo, banjo 2(I wasn't a big n64 fan.) If you have a Wii and or a 360 you can get everything I liked on it(the GC can get all those zeldas, the wii everything else, maybe not banjo, but that's on the 360.

I say no. I had an N64, and I loved it at the time. However, if you look at the games that would really be good to play nowadays, most of them (OoT, Majora's Mask, Super Mario 64) are available on VC on the Wii. Plus, some of the games that were awesome at the time, like Goldeneye, wouldn't be as good playing it now unless you are playing for nostalgic purposes.

Depends on whether or not you want to play the gold cartraige, I never had an N64, I wish I did but I know that the N64 is a great system and that most of the games on that system are great, still, you can download many of these games on the Virtual Console for the Wii, but if you don't have a Wii than go ahead, its worth the money and now the N64 should be really cheap.

It is the best console ever released, so it is worth owning. The most difficult and often times most expensive aspect of the N64 are finding quality controllers. Don't believe what others say about the gamepad though. It is actually a rather nice controller. I always preferred the analog stick on it over the ps1(and even the more modern sony ones). I think the reason people don't think its a good gamepad is that they must have only used ones in shoddy condition. Because really--a great D-Pad, 6 face buttons, and a good analog stick IF you find an unabused pad.

Seeing as though you can pick one up for $20 to $30, and get a handfull of games for another $20 or $30, you can essentially start a new game library at the same cost of a new current gen game. So, what I am getting at is, yes, it is worth it.

if you already have a gamecube then you can get the legend of zela collectors edition that has both of them... thats if you thos 2 are the only n64 games you like.... if not just get the n64... and they dont sell them at game stop so you might have to look for a store that sells older games or just ebay...

ya well most 64 versions of those games are better

for instance duke nukem it has split screen and ai in the game so you can blast away in any level you choose

hexen looks more better on the n64 as seen in level 1

plus turok was exclusive to nintendo platforms so thats one game to look for

quest 64

roadsters

top gear rally series

so ye id say go for it if its cheap

i got mine for 50 off ebay with 2 games 1 i already had but i was only replacing a unit

so any way if you look in my collection your destined to find somthing lol cause there were only 39 somthing games and i have over 100 of those

yeah its worth like $40 or so. they have a good handfull of exclusive titles. but dont expect to be blown away comparing it to PS2 games. I personally am thinking of finding one so i can play MarioKart64, Golden Eye, and Mario 64. MarioKart64 and 007:golden eye are the 2 best multiplayer games for the n64 by far! Its hard to find 4player games that are more fun on any console really.

To answer your question: YES!!! I'd recommend Turok 2 and Shadow Man as well. And if you like racing games - get Beetle Adventure Racing too. However, it's worth getting an n64 for Ocarina of Time alone...

JuarN18
For sure. The joysticks on N64 controllers are about as reliable as a Pinto starting in 20 degree weather. They get loose after using them for a while, and it's a very common problem with used N64 controllers. So you should really buy a controller still in the package off of EBay, they aren't that much. -Nate-

I wouldn't buy a console for only two games, the N64 has a load of games that you should try out if you get one. If you are looking for those two zelda games you can play them on the Gamecube. http://cube.ign.com/objects/608/608263.html
