Is Halo:Combat Evolved still fun IYO?

We all know back in 2001 this game was the bomb. It wentheadto head with the greatest PC shooters of the time and that was no small feat for a console game. However, I do feel this game is beyond outdated now. The gunplay no longer feels satisfying, the graphics are unbearingly stale, the level desighn is generic and extremely plain. Honestly I donot think I can ever enjoy this game again. In my opinion it has aged worse than Doom.

How do you allfeel about this game? Has it aged well? Is it still fun to play?

Heck yeah it's still fun. The graphics still hold-up, not as impressive as modern games but not bad by any means. The controls are precise and responsive. The single-player campaign has an epic campaign and the A.I. can be adjusted by adjusting the difficulty level to your skill-level. The multiplayer is very fun even, if you've got enough controllers and people for local multiplayer.

Heck yeah it's still fun. The graphics still hold-up, not as impressive as modern games but not bad by any means. The controls are precise and responsive. The single-player campaign has an epic campaign and the A.I. can be adjusted by adjusting the difficulty level to your skill-level. The multiplayer is very fun even, if you've got enough controllers and people for local multiplayer.

I do agree for the most part, the game did age quite well. My problem though with Halo CE is the repetitious level design that plagues the game, and thats a prolbem not with aging, but a problem any game can have.

The level design is definantly my biggest problem with the game aside from the dull gunplay. I mean just try mowing an elite down with the AR on Legendary - Its like he's a plain old bullet sponge. However i still do kind of enjoy Truth and Reconciliation and The Maw and Two Betrayals. IMO Silent Cartographer and Halo are quite overrated as far as levels go.

I think the original Halo is perfect. Every element of it fits perfectly wit every other element, even down to the way Master Chief controls and how the enemies move. I think CE is the best Halo game. The main reason for this is the level design. In terms of a space for a gunfight to take place in a Halo game, CE's level design is perfect. I thinks it's aged extremely well. I even think it still looks really good. If you want to see graphics that haven't aged well, go load Shadow of the Colossus.x-2tha-z

I donot agree with that the original Halo is perfect by anymeans. I will concede as I did earlier it aged fine, however the games second half has horrible Level design. If you think its perfect be my guest, but to me that is lazy and just poorly intergrated level design right there. Levels like the library are overly long filled with you going around in circles in repetitious enemies as the Flood. Than you back track unneccesarily into levels that you had already done before and they felt like more of rehashes of earlier levesl than something new. The first several levles in the Game are fantastic, they are well thought out offer variety, and felt fresh. The later levels became rehashes of previous levels as well as adding monotnous design such as the circular design of the library level. The game did redeem it self with its fantastic Final Stage, but aside from that I think that Halo in terms of Level design improved dramatically, and for me comparing Reach to the original Halo, Bungie mastered superb level design with Halo Reach, as that game never had a single moment of redundancy in it compared to the original. That is just my two cents.

I remember sitting in my house with feet and feet of snow during the christmas holidays, playing through the campaign. WOW! I played the multi-player a few times as well but, I haven't touched the game for... 6 years. You guys make me want torevisit Halo this week again. Awesome!

well halo reach graphics dont look like 20 times better that said , ugh i dont think its as fun as it was day one ,

goldeneye is the only fps game i knew that has the multiplayer on tops ,

perfect dark improved up on this , halo played just like goldeneye , no improvments upon it except the recharge sheilds and stuff that said its a yes still fun but not as fun

I've only played the PC trial, and have to say I was not impressed by the controls. It feels very console-ish. I intend to play the series as soon as I procure a 360, though. I had no issue with the graphics and the weapons in the demo were certainly cool. Even the fights were neat; the enemies did different things pretty much every time (reminded me of fighting the Black Ops in Half Life Opposing Force). But the controls just bugged me; felt like I was zoomed in too far.

I'm sure it'll be better on its native (or native-ish) platform.

A couple months ago I bought the PC version and for the most part the game is still fun to play. Only problems are the bad level design later in the game and the A.I. isn't good by todays standards. Plus I still hate the Library after all these years.
