I tend not to lose much sleep over video games that don't release according to some perceived schedule.

@Gammit10: No one ACTUALLY loses sleep, no one ACTUALLY waits...this is something many users here don't seem to understand. The dissapointment everytime you hear new tidbits about the game to rediscover that the game wont be out for years to come, that is dissapointing to hear. Especially if its a game from a franchise you love, and are looking forward to. The lifecycle of these consoles isnt that long, let alone the last, if a game takes 7 years and get shifted to a new console, you invested in a console with the knowledge a game would come out for it, only to find out its taken to long that it is now on another? That's wrong
@JustPlainLucas: That video gives me sad face. He's too far gone to save...
In answer to the OP, I think we should expect longer development cycles for games of this caliber. It's not a world of tiled textures anymore. Each scene in the modern Final Fantasy games is a handcrafted masterpiece that I sometimes wish I didn't have to quickly run through because of the random encounter generator.
Not only are these games visual masterpieces, the audio accompaniment could be a standalone symphony orchestra concert. So all of this would add to the time needed.
I personally think that the Lightning storyline went a little long, but I understand from a business perspective that they had all of the digital assets that could be re-used to generate quick income to fund future endeavors. So I think they had to keep teams working on the Lightning series which delayed 100% focus on FF-XV.
In the end, it's their FF reputation and millions of dollars at stake. Unless you have a horse in this race (a la Star Citizen KickStarter funding), you can't do anything except come here and express your opinion.
What do you mean save? and before anyone comes with the secret, please let this guy answer what he meant ;)

'But most serious developers take their time to make a game, Rocksteady has worked pretty much the same number of years on the next Batman game, if i recall its even going to hit 8 years before they release it. Rockstar take the same and sometimes even longer , most games takes time to make, thats the way it is and always have been and thats why most developers dont start and finish at the same time and why we have games coming out on a regular basis.
So i dont mind waiting its again not something new.
@Jacanuk: Someone already explained that this guy in the video was a caricature of a gamer. The truth of the matter is that there are actually endomorphs like him, who still live in their parent's basements well into adulthood, don't do anything except live for gaming, and snack on chips and soda at 4am and have the biggest collection of Mcfalane toys as their closest friends. So, it wasn't that difficult for me to believe that guy was beyond saving. If you ask what I mean about "saving," I literally mean this candidate has a higher risk of heart disease, and social ineptitude that could prevent someone from finding happiness away from a computer screen.
@psn_m1nat3k: the thing with boogie2988 is that he IS that sort of person but he creates the 'francis' character with self awareness. I'm not entirely sure why he doesnt try to lose weight though. I know we should accept people as they are but fro him to embrace unhealthiness as 'who he is', is a defeatist attitude and suggests 'depression'
@Jacanuk: not the best example, it hasnt been 8 years since the last 'batman arkham X' game lol, no matter who made it. This is what I mean, it not about holding some developers to a higher standard than others.
What do you mean bad example? you were complaining that it took 7 years and i showed you that most developers work that way.
But no it wasn´t 7 years since the last batman game, but that just proves my point, City and Origins were both pretty much reskinned Asylum game, so no it didn´t take them 7 years but what you want, new ip´s or more COD/BF4/AC where we get yearly releases that bring almost nothing new.

Who are you to judge how he lives his life? he has a wife, he has friends, he makes a shit ton of cash on youtube by being Francis and himself? so not entirely sure why you would even contemplate that he needs saving? Infact since you are one of those "people" who somehow think that unless we look like you , the human race is doomed. You are the one needs "saving" at least enough to make you see that its not your concern how someone else lives their life.

Well, sure its not the healthiest to be overweight, but losing weight is also for some not something you just do, for some there is a number of other reasons than just eating 7 pizzas in a sitting. But in regards to Boogie, as long as the guy is happy its his life and thats whats important.
@Jacanuk: fair enough. Even francis wouldn't LITERALLY wait around for a game, I'm questioning the common sense of some of the previous posters. This blog wasn't a debate to convince me that it's acceptable for a game to come out 7 years after announcement. The question was just for everyone to contribute what they thought and perhaps convince themselves (if need be) lol

I don't need any convincing. My stance remains the same. Provided I'm not ONLY looking forward to games on the horizon, I honestly don't care how long it takes for a game to come out. In fact, I've had several times where I probably would have wanted to kill myself if I lived for the day that The Last Guardian was going to come out. This a relative non-issue for me, because I'd much rather experience what's out now than being hung up on games that have yet to be released.
There's also a positive side-effect to not anticipating games still a far ways off. You keep your expectations in check. I remember waiting anxiously for Kameo, which skipped over not one, but two console generations to release as a 360 launch title, and I was disappointed in how it turned out. So, instead of pining for The Last Guardian's release, I'd rather just get around to older games I bought like Rayman Legends and play games I just bought like Dying Light to pass the time. I'm happy.
@Jacanuk: I meant that was not the best example. Final fantasy are not sequels to one another, that little foray into stupidness started after final fantasy x-2. These batman games at least upheld the status quo instead of dragging them down like XIII did out of the gate.
They announced versus XIII on ps3 exclusively, it has now taken so long that the game is now FINAL FANTASY XV to cut their previous losses and is now multiplatform across xbox one and PS4. That is quite different than the arkham series. The arkham series also does not have the historical pedigree that the FF series does, that fans have come to expect from it.
If square had a good thing going back then the sure as hell is no excuse to stop now. Developer constantly used to complain that last gen consoles were restricting, now theyve been given what they want I'd like to see some results. If the'yre allowed to take forever, yet another console generation will go by and we'll have to buy YET ANOTHER console to play games we're looking forward to on current gen. This console lifecycle is only meant to last 10 years after all.
Kojima was smart, he didnt scrap developtment of MGSV on last gen consoles just because he had plans for to bring it to next-gen (now current gen) . Square on the other hand expected A LOT from gamers. 1) The assumption that we were following versus XIII so religiously, that we'd adopt a new-gen console for versus XIII (now XV) 2. The assumption that we'd be happy with the drastic shift in tone from what was originally shown when the game was versus XIII, and they showed a HELL OF A LOT. 3) not to mention the assumption that we were following the franchise so reliiously that we'd get final fantasy type-0 for current-gen consoles (while the vita community has been screaming for years to bring it to that console). THOSE ARE TALL ORDERS for fans, considering how long they've taken. It's like waiting hours for a bus, none comes and then being told you're going to have to shell out for an expensive taxi.

Ok, and yes i do get its annoying waiting if you are expecting a game and really want to play it.
But personally i don't really play that many games and i still have a backlog that would take me from now and until summer in 7 years :D, i still haven't even touched South Park, Dragons age or Skyrim. so for me it does not matter that much how long it takes a game,

@Jacanuk I don't want to hijack Moinsyyed's thread. So - if you're happy being obese, I'm happy for you. If you're eating seven pizza's in one sitting, you probably have an overactive hypothalamus that you should see a doctor about. If you love those around you, don't ever let them use the phrase, "he was dead before he hit the floor," because your heart burst from eating seven pizzas to celebrate you getting 1,000,000 views on YouTube. Do not celebrate obesity, fight it.
I'm glad you got that off your chest. If you need me, I'll be over here living my life longer than you will ever hope to. N/R
In one of the commentaries, you say 7 years from announced.. I don't know about FF because I've never liked it and I sincerly I don't care, but MGSV has not been announced 7 years ago.
If you love a saga like MGS when your in your teenage, well we should consider the case that you might not keep loving videogames 7 years later, so I'll give you that one.. But if you keep playing videogames, having loved the game 7 years ago, you will probably like it 7 years later..
Let's say you are a child and you like MGS, well if that's the case, then something is wrong since you souldn't be playing MGS as a child. However, it much depends on what saga are we talking about
Having said that, my opinion is that even when I totally support the fact of companies taking as long as needed time to create the best possible experience, 7 years is too much time.. so in some ways I do agree with you
To the OP, I deff see what you mean. Especially if a game takes 7 years to make. People get older, their tastes change and so on. I hate waiting as much as the next guy because the anticipation for let's say FF15 has been killing me since the moment it was announced. I'm the type of gamer who gets excited for the announcement and stuff but if it is going to hide under wraps and take time then eventually I'll just forget about it until the next batch of info is released. I don't blame developers for how long it takes to make their game just as long as the wait proved that a great game could be made. Something today's industry know little about.

Ever hear about that guy who died by his exercise machine falling on him?
@JustPlainLucas: lollllllllllllllllllll why is this turning into a fitness vs slothfulness contest?
I suppose I'm to blame since I was the one who posted the Francis video.
@matt2790: It's coming up to 5 years since Peacewalker. we've only had ports and remasters since.
Maybe, but as MGS came to an end in 2008 with MGS4, we should haven't expected more MGS titles to come out since then.. now that the saga continued telling the story of Big Boss, with Peace Walker and Phantom Pain, well.. I certainly do expect more games ('Metal Gear' and 'Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake' remakes incluided)
@richietickles: I am not worthy richie. For your entertainment I am going to try and channel some of the numbnut commenters here, here we go....
Richie,
Numbnut 1 - So did you just stay at home for 20 years staring at you're computer monitor waiting for it to release?
Numbnut 2 - It's not acceptable if that's the only thing you had to look forward in life. Honestly, there's so much more you could have done in the meantime, and no, I'm not talking about buying and playing other games. You could've lived life man...i'm tearing up here :(
Numbnut 3 - Nobody literally thought you were waiting 20 years, but unless you were doing that how is having to wait 20 years for a game a problem?
I'm sorry I had to use you @richietickles to make that point. You're a real trooper for putting up with a 20 year wait for a true shadowrun game lol. I think we can all stop pretending that we're not passionate gamer here and that as a hobby, it is fulfilling.
The only thing you said that was correct was that you are not worthy to speak to me. Everything else was neckbeard dribble.
