A few days ago a friend sent me this link: http://bit.ly/2DpKg5t

Supposedly, this site has a lot of companies offering people jobs for testing out games. I would LOVE to be able to make money without a job just by doing something I already love! Although my work life and time with my wife have started taking over my gaming life ( the most updated console I have is a PS2 and I just haven't had the extra money to upgrade from there ), I do still enjoy playing games when I can find the time. But if I could get my gaming life back and actually make a living doing it? That would be awesome!! However, part of me will always find this a little hard to believe. So, my question, Do you guys actually think it's possible to make enough money playing games to live off of?

Testing games isn't as fun or as awesome as you would think.

Pays pretty bad, you're testing almost unplayable builds commonly/ sometimes for very long sessions, and can get thrown-out/ fired for having an opinion which wasn't asked directly. Play Testers are easily replaced so you're not really essential to the development process.

How a Play Tester works is the following- Random check-in and finish times, low pay, and when you're asked questions you better give them the exact answer they want and nothing more, even if you're trying to be honest.

Do you guys actually think it's possible to make enough money playing games to live off of?

No and majority of developers that use the method are intending for students during Summer/ Winter breaks. It's not something you should get hopeful for. Better chance becoming a successful Streamer/ Youtube Gamer.

I don't really know much about being a "game tester" but I'd assume in terms of "pay" it really depends on how big the company you are testing games for is. It does seem like it'd get tedious. I'd personally become depressed. It's not exactly an active lifestyle. You'd need to balance yourself for sure.

Don't forget Youtubers and E-Sport players. Some of those people can make a living playing games. I wouldn't recommend it though. I think it's a hard business breaking in to.

Work as a video game tester is really hard. Maybe you could think that spending your whole time playing video games sounds amazing, but when you realize you've been playing for like 10 hours the same exactly level in one video game in order to find any kind of bug, it becomes really heavy. I believe video games are in my life just to go away from the real world, from the work, from everything. I need them to enjoy and feel great. So, I never wanna work as a game tester, 'cause I know how hard is that job.

Thanks for the input everyone! I appreciate it. I think the inner child in me got really excited about the idea, but I think I am going to set this aside as that, a childish idea, and move on.

Game testing is a lot of repetitive, monotonous work. There are more fun ways to make money from gaming but you either have to be very very good at a particular game to play competitively at major tournaments or you have to be entertaining enough for people to watch and donate to you on twitch or youtube.
