Is it safe to say that 2011 is the best year in gaming ever?

So there are a few years in gaming which seem to be regarded as exceptionally good in hindsight, like 1998, 2001, and 2004 due to the sheer amount of great games that got released in each of those years. But 2011 seems to eclipse them all. Consider that all of the following were released in 2011:

It is definately a fantastic one no doubt. Just the end of the year line up alone is enough to fill a full year of gaming. Batman Arkham City, Rayman Origins, and Zelda Skyward Sword look to be some of the best games I ever play.

I agree. We have some great games coming along our way very shortly and we've some good games out already. But is it the best year? No. Most certainly not, that's for sure!

I thought this year was a great big disappointment. Dead Space was my favorite game this gen', and Dead Space 2 wouldn't even make it in my top 25. Just a shooter, walk down the hall, get to the room, shoot the creatures and repeat 200 times. Terrible story as well. Both Dead Island and Rage got traded in before I'd even finished them. They were very similar in that neither had any story whatsoever and the combat was boring as hell.

And I'm not paying $60 to be a beta tester - again - for Bethesda on another one of their half-finished open wold games.

I dunno, I suppose I didn't buy the right games, but reading what people have to say about most of the other games that came out this year, it doesn't seem like I missed much. A bunch of bargain bin purchases for next year basically.

This was truly the year of all hype and no substance, at least as far as my personal experience went.

It's definitely one of the best in recent memory; the last year that had me this excited about gaming was 2007. However, depending on how good Skyrim and Zelda are, this year could compete with the three greatest years of gaming ever, 1997, 1998 and 1999.

It's been an amazing year, however it has had a plethora of dissapointments. Games like Rage and Duke Nukem were expected to be much better than they were. I can't recall a single year in the 2000s that has had so many games that could be considered some of the all-time great games. Arkham City, Dark Souls, Portal 2, and probably Skyrim and Skyward Sword. That being said, I think 98 was a better year in gaming.
