I'm sure that 80% of hardcore and casual gamers alike would still take a PS2 over a PS3 considering the major discrepencies in the quality and volume of games between the two systems, so I'm guessing yes. Hell, I'd rather buy a PS1 than a PS3 at the moment.

Also the fact, most people don't want to spend £50 on one game. I mean wth, thats like one weeks rent for student accommodation.

if that were true (it's not) than the PS2 would be selling more than the wii.

in Japan PS3 is outselling I'll I have to wait for the NPD to see the American sales. Price is a major factor right now, that's why the PS2 is doing so well.

Yep, it's true the PS2 is regularly outselling the PS3, and for good reason. The system is dirt cheap and provides access to one of the greatest game libraries of all time, if not ever. Sure you can play most of those games on the PS3, but why pay $300 more to do it? Despite Sony's hype of Blu-ray gamers stiill buy consoles for games. Once the PS3 has a notable library (and gets a little cheaper) the PS2 sales will finally die down and most consumers will start picking the PS3.

Yeah, it's selling more than the PS3. I guess most people would rather buy a system with a fantastic library than pay $400 or $500 more for the same with just a few new games currently out.

Yep, but before you use it as fanboy ammo, keep in mind that it's still outselling the 360 as well.
It's cheap, and it has an excellent library of inexpensive games. I'd still be playing mine but I'm using my PS3 to play PS2 games instead.

The last numbers I saw had the ps2 behind only the ds and wii. but that was a month or two ago. i believe the ps2 is still outselling the ps3 and the 360. please correct me if the latest numbers show differently.

it would make sense though, to be selling more ps2s than ps3s.cuz alot of people who cant afford any next gen price tag start buying last gen systems when next gen comes out. the ps3 library hasnt immpresed so far, maybe 1 or 2 good games but the ps2 has a huge library with good games for any gamer

The PS2 is still a solid sytem with a huge library of cheap games. It makes sense that it would continue selling. Many people/families cannot afford a PS3 and are buying a PS2 as their first gaming system. I work in some poorer neighborhoods, and have to go into many people's homes. The PS2 is the most common system I see, and most of the kids seem perfectly happy with it.

Its normally takes a while for current gen systems to surpass the top last gen system. The PS2, the second then current gen system, had been on the shelves in the US a year before it passed the PS1 in sales and Sony and its third parties had killed off support for the PS1 long before the PS2 started to outsell it (the PS1 was playing host to garbage like Small Brawl late 2001).

In 2007 the PS2 is still hosting high quality games such as God of War 2, Romance of the Three Kingdoms 11 (niche, but awesome), Odin Sphere and soon Persona 3. That is great for PS2 owners or gamers looking for a quality living system (albeit one on its last legs) at a low price, but not so great for its would be successors.

Don't forget Grim Grimoire, Soul Nomad, Growlanser, and Wild Arms 5. Also on that list, SNK is bringing out King of Fighters XI, Fatal Fury Archives, and more archives to go along with Sammy's Guilty Gear Accent Core. There's also a likely chance that Shining Wind, Ar Tonlico 2, and other quirky Japanese games will come over, like that newly announced best-selling baseball game in Japan that willbe released through 2K Games this year. And last but definitely not least, you can't forget EA's continual support with the next Madden, FIFA, NBA Live, etc., on the PS2 as long it's on its two legs. And you know Guitar Hero III will be a best seller.

So yeah, with support like this, it may take awhile longer for the PS3 to take over the throne.
