Yes, there is. Convince Square-Enix to remake the game, so maybe it will look decent this time around.

It looks great on my 32" Sony CRT :) Old games and HD TVs just don't mix. I tried playing Spyro 2 on my Grand Parents' 42" Panasonic HD TV through a standard AV cable and it looked awful.

it depends on the HDTV in question. for instance on my Sony Bravia 32inch HDTV, older games look ok , on the living room HDTV, they look pretty awful . of course the best would be to get a CRT or at most a non HD LCD like I use.

just wondering overall. I heard indeed vga looks best on crt like with dreamcast but also rgb looks best on it for other consoles. what are best crt tv's to look at and when they don't have a vga output in the back is there a way to still get vga on it?

It is going to look bad on almost any HD set IMO. I say almost only b/c you can never say always... If you have a PSP, that would be your best bet IMO

yes it can , he can buy better video cables than the rubbish composite cables 2/3 of people seem to use with their pre 360/PS3 systems :P (heck some people still use them with the PS3, which is insanity) (yes Im quite aware of what you meant)

Are you saying it looks worse than it already looks like which is beyond terrible? (outside of battles which aren't as terrible.)

Personally I kind of like the pixelated look. I understand it is a hardware limitation, but I don't mind Twisted Metal 2 through the ps3 played on a plasma, in the slightest. I think my tv does a good job scaling, perhaps. Some games are worse than others though. Metal Gear is one. I don't find a problem with my "hint" if you own the game. My psx was in a flood along with all my N64 games awhile back. There's exceptions imo.

its not a matter of pixelated or not.

playing a game through composite looks alot blurrier than playing through RGB , or even S-video.

since he wants to play his PS2, I would recommend getting component, as the image quality is near RGB (ive noticed it looks a tiny bit duller) but supports 480p, which RGB SCART does not.

the last comparison pics I did were pretty bad and didn't show the quality differene very well , thanks to my awful webcam (though recently I got a better webcam which might make that comparison better)

I am very ignorant on this kind of stuff. What is Component, and what is RGP SCART?

Composite Cables - basically the worst you can get other than RF (which looks like youre underwater)

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/5/55/S-video-connection.jpg

S-video - middle of the way, better than composite, not as good as RGB

http://img.tomshardware.com/us/2005/11/23/pc_interfaces_101/scart-stecker.jpg

RGB SCART - basically the best you can get for the old systems, only problem is that its basically non existant in the US , its mainly in Europe.

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/1/1d/Component-cables.jpg

Component - gives similar quality to RGB , with the addition of 480p support for the games that use it, however, pretty much any pre PS2 system isnt going to work with it (also , I don't know how well PS1 games will respond to this on a PS2, they were never meant to run with component)

it just makes them look like they were played on s video if you played it on ps2. you can play the games on all ps3s through hdmi which is the most superior connection

the problem is that the PS3 upscales those games, making them look worse in the process (they look stretched out)

and playing a game via the PS2 will certainly not make it look like S-video , unless you really are using S-video.

besides youre the one who said composite looks the best if I remember correctly, something I find hard to understand.

that might be true, but its still not as good as RGB. (though I guess for a US gamer, its as good as they will get) and no , component will not run RGB, go to the PS2's bios and select RGB mode while using component cables, and the whole screen basically disapears.

since Ive got a somewhat better webcam than before, again , a comparison (these were from a PS1 though , not a PS2)

Composite

S-video

RGB

also , using composite does not hide jaggies like has been suggested, you can still see them , just a little more blurred (but for that you trade away alot)

exactly , thats because component is basically compressed RGB, so its not compatible. the main advantage of component is that it supports 480p, RGB SCART does not, but since he wants to play an old PS1 game its not applicable.

The best way is to grab ya a standard definition projection TV, they're like 50 to 60 inch lol. Still I suppose the best way to make them modern is just have about a 32inch 720p tv. I used to play them on that and they honestly didn't look \*cough emulators* cough\ half bad.

Actually, MGS looks bad cuz it's rudimentary 3d by today's standards. It's hard to go back and play that stuff after what we have nowadays. For me in regards to 3d, it didn't start looking decent/pretty good till the DC imo.

That is a perspective opinion though. Back in the early 90s, I loved playing ps1 games, they are just hard for me to go back to.
