Is there really anyone who still thinks RE5 is rascist?

When I first heard that Resident Evil 5 is coming out, I wasn't to excited, since I knew it would take YEARS for it to actually come out. But only a week or so after I heard this (it could've even been the next day actually), people would come up to me and say, "Haven't you heard? Some people are calling Resident Evil 5 rascist!" And I would think, "That's probably just a shallow story from a group of a couple people, nothing to worry about." When I saw YouTube videos and blogs saying the same message, "RE5 isn't rascist, you dumb***es!" I would just watch them come by, one after another, and everyone who responded to the videos/blogs would agree with with them. I would never see a single person actually say that the game is rascist, all I hear is storys about them saying so.

I do not need anyone actually giving me web links to pages showing me people who do think the game is against black people. All I want to know is if there is actually someone who is reading this who does think the game is rascist. Thank you, and no, I do not believe the game is rascist...

... Don't you know that we need a new race related RE5 thread every week or the forums themselves would collapse?

I really hope there aren't any people that think It is racist still. It is a silly thing to think a game is racist.

I beleive some video game journo N'Gai something said it had "racist overtones" or the imagery made him unconfortable or something.

Hang on, Google to the rescue:

All I know about this game is that it's set in Africa, and so naturally, there would be black zombies. But people have to realize that zombies are zombies, they'll still eat your brains out whether they're white or black.

No. If it were the first in the series maybe, but RE has been everywhere killing everyone for years so I don't think they had bad intentions.

I've only seen a few trailers for this game so it is hard to say whether it is racist. I would guess not seeing as it would be a very stuupid move on Capcom's part. I think what people are getting mixed up is racism and general stereotyping. It's probably a bit too close to the bone when you think of western view of Voodoo (but doesn't that originate in Haiti?)

As games are the newest form of art I think it does need to be careful as to how it adopts stereotypes (does anyone remember that black character from one of the late street fighter 2's who threw basketballs as his projectile attack) but I don't think RE5 is doing anything racist. Is COD4 racist?

I think the situation is a touch more complex than the posters are making out here. No Resident Evil 5 is not racist - but it has potetentially controversial undertones. I think people here are being a touch ignorant at the history of Africa, particularly colonialism for example and the way in which African tribes were depicted to Westerners and their invading armies. No previous RE game to my knowledge has starred a black man massacreing white men for example - so the two situations are not exactly comparable. In saying all that; there is no doubt that it was not the developers intention to spark controversy, there is no hidden message as such - but we should be careful in dismissing the controversy altogether.
