Do what makes you happy. Nothing wrong with gaming if it doesn't control your life. Sometimes socializing with fakes and snakes can be even more of a waste of time so unless you have good friends and a trustworthy lady you can confide in, you're not missing out on much.

It's no more a waste than reading. Probably more of a waste of time than a creative hobby, though. Still, games probably do help you with critical thinking and hand-eye coordination.

I think its a hobby like anything else. People like to shoot and guns and buy tons of bullets. Are they improving their lives or doing anything productive? No, just blowin **** up. But for some reason the stigma has been if anything is a waste of time its video games, but as I just showed that is not true.

Now folks don't get me wrong!

Im a gamer since i had thumbs, i love it and ...i love it. But sometimes i wonder why do i play....i mean is there something wrong with me , do i have a lack of social skills or what? Is it normal prefering games than friends during the week end?

Teel me what's your opinion.

Mike

Friends come and go. Most people end up not staying close with friends, so some might say that's a waste of time. I think it's more of a waste of time chatting with strangers that you'll never meet in real life on the internet and in forums like this one, than it is playing games.

I've had friends that I thought would be close to me forever, but things change and people change. Friends come and go but games will stay with you forever. :P

I wouldn't count it as a waste of time if you were playing

1-because you are enjoying the game

2-in a way that doesn't effect your studies, job, other important activities.

I would if you were playing

1-just because you were a gamer at some point and you want to hold that title, even though you are no longer interested.

2-because you want to have something to say on forums, or to become some gamers friend.

as far as the social matter is concerned, i would agree that gamers, myself included, are less social, that doesn't mean we have less social skills or we can't make friends, but while we spend our time gaming, and others are spending it socializing, so they are more social than us, as we are more "gamers" than them.

It's a waste in the sense that nothing productive is being accomplished. But there is nothing wrong with doing things simply for the sake of enjoyment.

It's a hobby, so as long as you're enjoying it, it isn't a waste of time.

This. To me, hanging out with friends is a waste of time. Video gaming is an awesome thing to do, just to leave the real world and enter the virtual world.

while gaming can be useful in learning some real life skills, such as problem solving, teamwork, communication, etc, the majority, is a "waste" in the fact that its not a productive use of your time. but if its a hobby you enjoy then its not a waste.

What is 'a waste of time'?

It's hard to describe when you think about it.....:?

Its only a waste of time as much as watching movies, watching TV, reading books, playing sports or looking at paintings is. Its a hobby, its meant for entertainment, like many other things.

In the end, everything we do is a waste of time. We are just passing time until our death, so to answer your question, yes, gaming is a waste of time. But, it is a fun waste of time.

Like all things in life, its about finding a balance. Gaming is fun! Its a great way to pass time, put yourself into a story that you have some control over. There's nothing wrong with being a gamer. Just make sure you see the sun now and then and interact with humans. And ask yourself if you are happy. :)

I honestly don't think it is a waste of time. It's good for increasing one's problem solving abilities and sense of awareness. Also it's good for the psyche as far as stress and depression goes, especially for those that are older and have full time jobs and responsibilities. Kicking back and playing some games chills you out, as long as it isn't ninja gaiden lol.

Most things can be considered a waste of time depending on who you ask. Someone who's always reading books could be seen as wasting time, and someone who goes out partying every night could be seen as wasting time. So long as you're not just gaming all day every day without future prospects then I'd say it's OK.

Time you enjoy wasting is not wasted... And I wouldn't call it wasting time. People do whatever they want with their FREE time. You're not even forced to do anything in your free time. That's why it's called your free time.

What? Were you truly thinking of working in your free time? Do you think hanging out with friends brings you the same benefits of working? Truth is video gaming is not productive but neither is partying! So, unless you were planning on working without break then I'd say whatever it is you choose to do in your free time, it's OK. :)

Yes it is without a doubt. Videogames are a waste of time. That is the whole point it is entertainment which all forms of entertainment can be considered a waste of time. Because you could always be doing sometime more important.

Playing is Fun, but a waste of time. like so many other things.

In my opinion, gaming isn't a waste of time because it is a hobby and hobbies are not a waste of time ;). Think of it this way - famous musicians. Their lives revolve around their music and gigs. That is their life and they love it. It's the same thing here, if you enjoy it, it isn't a waste of time. Live your life how you want. What even everybody in the world could tell you is a waste of your time but you don't think it is, it doesn't matter... just stick with it. Enjoy it and have fun! :)

I don't think gaming is a waste of time in most cases. However, if that's all one does all day without being in school or having a job, or if it becomes an addiction, then that's problematic.

Depends on what you consider a waste of time. Technically speaking, you're not really accomplishing anything or building/creating anything practical. In that sense it is a waste of time.

Nothing is a waste of time if you're enjoying yourself.

I asked myself the same question and decided this was the only answer.

As long as you don't play it 12 hours a day I see no wrong in playing them in your free time. If you enjoy it, do it.
