Hi, I'm having trouble finding reviews for kids games for PC. My 6 year old has friends with games and he wants to have some of his own. I want to stick with PC as we have this in our lounge room already hooked up to a HD TV. Any ideas where I can find reviews? Any ideas where I can find a list of appropriate games with little violence and no swearing? Can anyone out there recommend a game or 2? Thanks.

Spore, though it might be a little too complex for a 6 year old. Sims might also be fun though it has some adult themes, if your looking for a review site, your on it!

As long as you know what you are looking for just type in the game name in the search bar on a site like this. Or go to a site like gamerankings.com and search for the game there to see links to a lot of different reviews for the game.

hmmm. Where I'm stuck is finding the games, I don't know the names of appropriate games. Also the 2 I've seen reviewed on Good Game need a GeForce 5200 or 8600. I have a Geforce 6400.

The best you can do is go to the ESRB website, select your console and the rating (generally E for everyone or EC for early childhood), this will give you a list of all games with that rating on that console. Now just find one you may like and look up the review here on Gamespot using the search box. Hope this helps.

One genre that has several child friendly games is the Business simulation games, Such as Simcity Societies which is a very friendly and easy version of a Simcity game that he might enjoy. Infact most Sim-games are child friendly. Rollercoaster Tycoon where he can build his own amusement park. The Movies where he can build his own movie studio and create his own movies. StarTopia where he builds and manage parts, eventually an entire, Space station where various aliens visit to relax. To mention a few.

There is no need for reviews on games for 6 year olds because they are all going to be crap, but as long as they get to press buttons, move somewhere and feel like they are winning a game which pretty much completes itself then you've got them something that will hold their attention for at best, 30 minutes. After that they are bouncing off the walls again and you've got to sort out something else.

There is still a variation in quality amongst kid-friendly titles, and children will notice them. I don't know of anything for PC, however, nor of a place to find reviews.

http://www.whattheyplay.com/is a family based gaming site.

http://www.esrb.org has ratings with all the content descriptors if you're curious about what the content of a given game is like.

Is your main concern appropriateness or difficulty?

Thank you all for your help. My main concern is that the game is reasonably good but is OK for a 6 year old. I know for myself there's plenty of crap games with nice packaging, so I was hoping for a review site where you could also filter by age rating. It seems the age rating sites and review sites don't mix. His friends are playing xbox and playstation games but I don't the titles and whether they're also for PC. I'll have to go and ask.

When I was six, I was playing Mario, Spyro, Crash, etc. I'd look for platformers, a lot of them are appropriate for all ages.

Good point. Most platforms are fairly age-neutral.

You can filter the games on this site, either in the reviews or all games section, select PC and one of the genres people have been suggesting like platformer, simulation, virtual life (Sims) and maybe racing and adventure.

GameSpot should really add a kid friendly option to that list.

GTA San Andreas, it will teach wim respect for his gang, how to curbstomp hookers, how to steal cars...overall, a very good game for today's children.

My 4 year old cousin loves to play Lego games when he's here, so I guess go with them. Also if the kid loves an animated movie there's a big chance that there's an easy game for it. I have no clue if there is a kid-oriented review site, but here on Gamespot you can find a lot of Reviews

Quick wit, eh? I'd probably say the Lego games and some platformers, there's one game I would recommend, but it's not entirely kid-friendly, it's portal 2, but I'd say E-10 is a spot on rating.
