Twilight Princess is the better game. Control, graphics, sound, scope and size all top Ocarina of Time. I'd say the level design of both is about equal. Ocarina of Time had better side quests and pacing as well as difficulty balance.
Though I think Twilight Princess is the better game, Ocarina of Time remains my favorite as it had much more of an impact when it was first released.
Orcarina of time...I dont even like twilight princess very much.
When I play a zelda game I want to be link, hacking and slashing with my sword and pwning beasts with my bow..Not a wolf..lol
I absolutely agree with this. The gameplay controls are so much better, at least on the Wii, but both have good puzzles. Ocarina of Time has nostalgia value, and I also vastly prefer the setting. I prefer more vibrant games as opposed to darker ones, though, so my guess is that's just personal taste.Twilight Princess is the better game. wouldn't the graphics for a link to the past be a little underdeveloped?mdlinkmariosora
How? They're 16 bit graphics, made for a 16 bit machine. How are they underdeveloped?
And please, get out of the ridiculous mentality that graphics is what makes a game good.
Being on topic, many people don't like Twilight Princess because of the simple fact that it does not follow the typical 'ocarina' or instrument sequences that 3D Zelda fans have become so accustomed to. The only time you'll ever get something similar, is when howling as a wolf, but you only do it about 8 or 9 times. (Counting it's actual relevance.)
But' it's also quite clear that most people take Ocarina of Time as the better game, simply because of nostalgia, and the fact that it was innovative for it's time, and it 'paved the way' for the newer ones.
In my opinion, they both share the same special place in my collection, because they are the only 2 Zelda games in existence that allow you to play as an adult Link. It may seem trivial to someone else who is reading this, but that is only one of the many reasons, but I really don't feel like getting into them.
I honestly could care less about both of them, I could never really get into them. I got further in Ocarina though.
Marjoras Mask and ALTTP are the best Zelda games IMO.
wouldn't the graphics for a link to the past be a little underdeveloped?mdlinkmariosoraUm, it was a 2d game. And it was one of the best-looking games available when it came out. Hell, it still looks alright even by modern standards.

I've never heard people complain about the lack of instrumental sequences in TP. Rather, the biggest complaint that seems to bring the game down in many people's eyes is the fact that the entire game was extremely derivative. TP was practically OoT 2.0 considering how much stuff it borrowed from that game. That's why many people still consider OoT to be better. We all agree that TP is the most refined Zelda to date, but because of how unoriginal it was OoT still wins on virtue of having actually been innovative.
I hated, HATED Twilight Princess.
I couldn't stand being a wolf. Not only was it not possible to use any of Link's items while in wolf form, you're relegated to boring and tedious fetch quests in very linear maps which goes against what Zelda is about: open worlds and exploration. Go fetch makes sense considering you're a dog, but it was not fun and I dreaded everytime Midna showed up and pulled me into the dark world. It felt like a chore to get to the good parts (which were great with Epona), but the bug gathering felt like an artificial way to lengthen the game. The wolf also only had one attack, and the dark world enemies were boring and generic.
Speaking of the twilight world, it contrasted horribly with the light....everytime Link dissolved into little blocks and disappeared into a hole in the sky that looked like it came out of the movie Tron, I cringed. What's this, the Matrix or Star Trek? Beam me up Link? And finally, Midna. Ugh....Midna. I thought Navi was annoying, she pales in comparison to Midna. Oh yea, the dungeons were way too simplistic compared to OoT.
Ocarina is a MUCH better game.

Really? Well, you're just hanging around a different crowd from I am. A lot of my friends have nitpicked that feature to no end, and I've also seen countless comments referring to it on YouTube, and on multiple videos.

True dat re: wolf and bugs. There was no decent incentive for even getting the bugs, and they were annoying. The only reason I liked being the wolf was that it was faster than Link without Epona, and because of the nostalgic howling sequences, but otherwise, it added nothing except for a reason for me to put the game down at times. For it's time OOT was way better. TP felt somewhat dated when it was released.
But when you take the nostalgia factorTP is technically the superior game. Hell it's basically OOT 2.0.

You guys DO realise that getting the bugs = big rupees?
Based on a clean, nostalgia-free evaluation of the two games, Twilight Princess is clearly better. It has way more content than Ocarina, way better graphics, and despite taking influence form a lot of Ocarina's elements, does most of them better. Just like Majora's Mask was better than Ocarina, and Wind Waker was better than Majora's Mask, Twilight Princess is better than Wind Waker. To anyone not wearing rose-tinted glasses, the main 3D Zelda series has always been improvements and refinements that have made the series better with every iteration.
I don't remember ever being short on rupees in that game. Mostly because there was nothing I ever used them for. I was so glad when I had to pay to fix the cannon so that I wasn't maxed out any longer. You guys DO realise that getting the bugs = big rupees?

I'm sure that maxing out all the types of your bombs and arrows along with buying the magic armor is something that you would be able to do by just playing through the linear part of the game. :P
Both games are definetely terrific, but I honestly do not know which one I like more. I have always said that the N64 Zeldas were my favorite, though that may be because I have played those ones multiple times, where as I have played TP much less. If I were to play TP as much as OoT and MM, I'd probably like it just as much as them, if not more...
to the fox dude, while i respect your opinion. Don't just assume that graphics make the game and ocarina has a much different plot than TP so that alone can change how a gamer thinks.
What if Majora's Mask was added to the mix?
mdlinkmariosora
You mean, instead of just transforming into a wolf, you could also transform into 2 other beings and be forced to complete the game within 3 days and monotonous time travel? No thanks. :P
The time travel in Ocarina was ok for me, but Majora's mask relied too heavily on it, IMO. Although I did enjoy both to a great extent.
