Does GTA IV really deserve a 10?

I have the game, ive played through it. I liked it a lot and I enjoy the online, but 10 means perfection, in my opinion this game is not perfection, the graphics, and controls for example. Personaly i think it deserves a 9.5 and the only reason it got so high ratign was from all the attention the GTA series gets due to negative publicity.

I come to the general games disscusion for non bias opinions, what do you all think?

Well, 10 does not mean "perfection" since obviously a game can always be better in some way. I haven't played it, but certain flaws with it I have read about suggest to me that it does not deserve a 10 from a site that generally gives games slightly lower scores than other sites.

Now if they were on a 4 star system or something, I could see them giving it 4 stars, but 10 out of 10 (which is really kind of 20 out of 20 since there are 20 possible scores) seems a bit much.

if gta4's 10 is not deserved, same applies for those too

gta4 doesnt deserve 10 topics really starts to be annoying, get over with it

So if we can't hand out tens anymore can we also stop giving nines? I mean nine's almost perfect and everything has too many flaws to get a 9. Personally I think the highest should be an 8. Nice round number that. =\

Does scores mean that much for you? just play the game and care for the score later, scores don't mean much for me, how about consider in your mind, how much the guy who reviewed it enjoyed the game? I think he enjoyed the game 10/10, Im enjoying the game 10 out of 10, thats how much fun and great the game is.

Stop hating on games, be gamers, finding flaws here and there are not going to get you anywhere, the enthusiasm and the enjoyment of the game would decrease and maybe it would vanish for you so play the games and enjoy, this HD, frame-rate, textures, rendering, nothing new, the game doesn't have bathrooms to take a shower crap never occurred to me while I play games, I didn't know about these things until I came to GS, it is a good thing to know about how games are done and it is a great thing to know about things in life but it didn't affect my gaming experience, never ever going to.

Look at Mass effect, everybody were shouting, FRAME-RATE issues hahahahah, so what? I'd enjoyed that game alot and didin't care about all of that crap.

EDIT: but for the sake of your complains, Im gonna reply to you and comment on your problems with the game.

The environment looks gorgeous, I don't see anything wrong with the graphics, everywhere I go in this game it blows me away, the lighting and shadow on the game are top notch, the effects on the car and the streets if it is raining looks so real, there are some great spots in the game where I say wow, I don't know what is the complain about the graphics, could you explain more?

As for the controls, you didn't elaborate also but Im guessing it is about the car controls, I find it way better than the old GTAs, it gives you a sense of the brake, you have to press the brake button you know, lol, and every car feels different than the others just like in real life so if you have a sport car, the handling would be much better and the overall controls feels hard for the first 2 hours, after that it gets better and better, it is very smooth.

If the definition of a 10 is perfect, then no other game to ever get a 10 from any review source has ever actually deserved it, because absolutely none of them are, in any way, perfect games. The angst and debate these numbers cause, it boggles the mind.

money money money.....MONEY!!!bond21

Gotta agree, however, like I said in another post, it is their rating system, if they abuse it (and I don't think they have), they'll lose credibility. Let's hope at least...

Conspiracies like these never seem to stop. I'd like to say they are new from the Gerstmann incident, but that only flamed what was already going on in the minds of conspiracy theorists perusing forum after forum. For years it was Sony supposedly doing the paying. Then Nintendo after receiving so many GOTYs. Last year's big accusation was that Microsoft was doing the paying. And now it's Rockstar -- with the only real reason being that the game received a 10.

Here's how I see it: (1) This site gave a total of five tens out of hundreds of game reviews, this one 10 to GTA being the first in many years. It's not like they haven't demonstrated that giving out 10s is not a regular thing they do. (2) It isn't setting some precedent that isn't being seen on other sites -- this has been a pretty close agreement from site after site. (3) Out of a HUGE number of high profile games last year, all of which had giant publishers behind them, including the venerable big three console owners, none were ever able to break beyond the 9.5 glass ceiling, despite ENDLESS accusations against Gamespot about the "Illuminati"-ish secret alliance with Microsoft. If publishers had had money to pay for 10-rated reviews so that they could stand out among all of the super high scores, that would have been the time to do it. Certainly there were companies with more than enough capital to make that happen were it even POSSIBLE.

The only thing that these conspiracies seem to be relying on is that a 10 was given to a game that they individually dont believe was quite perfect, added to their already deeply perceived belief in some kind of site-wide malfeasance that is itself built on dubious supposition and almost no concretes. If that's all the substance there is to these ideas, then shouldn't wisdom dictate the obvious need to spend time on better, more compelling, and more convincing conspiracies?

Me, well when I first loaded it up Id have given it a 7, then a hour in a 8, then 2 hours in a 9 building up to a 10 after about 6 hours of play, the next 20 hours it would have flucruated between a 9 and a 10 then it would have have tapered off to a 8. So all in all.... Im not really sure :P
