Technically, in Japanese phonetics, "ree-you" would be spelled Riyu (as in Riyu Kosaka, of DDR fame).

If you need pronunciation help, think of it more like this: R'yu.

The trick is, it's monosyllabic. The R is barely audible, but it's there, and it rolls right into the "yu" part of the word.

Basically, what DarkCatalyst said. it's kind of like "Are-you" but the Are part is really subtle. That's how I say it at least.Korubi

The R is definitely not pronounced "are", even subtly.

Use Shenmue as the example, and listen to how people address Ryo. The R is so soft it almost sounds like a D sometimes.
