Agreed that emulation has it's obvious upshot of being a digital copy that lasts forever but: You'd be surprised how long you can make things last in a smoke free/child free environment. I take extremely good care of my stuff and if something ever breaks down, I can usually dig up the dough to replace it. Maybe no immediately but eventually. 'sides, there's just something magical about the way old consoles sound compared to emulations. I played some emulated Genesis games a while back then I played them on the real thing monday when my Genesis came in the mail and it was noticeably different. The sound chips may have been emulated closely but they're not dead on. Also, the VC controller is NOT suited for Genesis games.[QUOTE="resevl4rlz"][QUOTE="whoozwah"]I've only got 6: Genesis Saturn Dreamcast Playstation 2 XBOX Wii Although the Wii has it's virtual console so I could count those consoles well and make it higher. I disagree. Using the actual thing is better. Some emulationshave problems and glitches and having the real deal just feels alot better.
Commodore 64 (1987-1992), Sega MegaDrive (1992-1994), Commodore Amiga 500+ (1994-1996), PS1 (1998-1999) Ok so the Commodore machines were computers but who used them for anything else other than gaming?
Of course I have a PC these days (self built) and the modern game consoles.
Hmmm this topic makes me wish I hadn't sold my NES and SNES in the great ebay Nintendo purge of '04. Nevermind.
Heres the list of what I still have =D
Game Boy
Sega Mega Drive II
Sega Saturn
Nintendo 64
Nintendo Game cube
DS Lite
Also still have my Amiga 500, which I did in fact used to use for Word Processing using the legendary Word Perfect! 99% Gaming though!

Playing on a TV Screen gives a much better experience IMO. And PC Emulators still have a lot of problems and crash frequently.

Playing on a TV Screen gives a much better experience IMO. And PC Emulators still have a lot of problems and crash frequently.
Emulation is preferable, in my opinion. There is no loss of profit for the hardware or software manufacturers/developers, because all of the games are now sold second-hand. The problem with using the original consoles and carts/discs is that many of the good games are tagged with exorbitant prices. There can be some sound issues, but that depends on the program used. I haven't used the Wii VC, so I don't have any experience there. I used Kega Fusion to play Snatchers though, and there were some sound issues, and I was using my original copy of Snatchers. Sometimes fuzz would pop up in the background during speech, which I know wasn't there when I played it on the SegaCD. Concerning crashes, I could list an emulator for every system back to the Intellivision and Atari 2600 that I've never experienced a crash with, and all you need is an S-Video cable and a nice sound system for your PC to play the games on the television.
I wish I could dedicate my time to building up my "retro" collection. The problem is...post-secondary education, a loan for a vehicle, etc. To top that off, I gave all of my NES, Genesis, Amiga, etc. games/consoles away to my cousin years ago after I got a PSX because his family couldn't afford to buy him video games. Some games were not given away, of course. You wouldn't be able to get Snatchers out of my cold dead hands, as hard as you tried. My corpse would momentarily reanimate and decimate the culprit.
I own - NES, SNES,Genesis, PS2, Xbox 360 (the 5 greatest systems ever!)
