I really liked: Mass effect series - great story, flexible classes, but lacks an open world deus ex series - perfect about everything torchlight 2 - good story, although the combat is a bit boring LOTR war in the north - good about the story and gameplay, loved the skill trees Fallout series - perfect about everything TES series - poor story but very good gameplay Syndicate - loved the story and gameplay alike, but too little RPG Bioshock Infinite - awesome story, but too little RPG Gothic series - My personal best Far Cry 3 - flexible gameplay, decent story Bastion - great story, decent gameplay Kingdoms of Amalur - well made story, great gameplay I didn't like: Dragon age series - the story may be good, but the gameplay ruins it all any MMORPG any JRPG PC onlyshnyagets
I'd say Mass Effect 1 is fairly open-world. Or open-galaxy anyway.
Why do you say no JRPGs? I can understand why people might dislike certain sub-classes of the genre but there's so much variety there (and so much quality) that I think you're missing out by ignoring them all. Something like FF6 is worlds away from Tales of Symphonia.
But given the type of game you're listing- how about System Shock 2?
